I. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Supervises and coordinates activities of reverberatory furnace and refinery workers engaged in charging, operating, and tapping the furnace, and refining casting, and storing various lead alloys.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises hourly employees in the performance of their duties in the department in conformance with applicable company policy and procedures, as well as, provisions of the Labor Agreement.
  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs the set-up and adjustment of machines. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Interprets specifications, job orders, and assign duties to workers. Initiates and recommends plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop department and work crew.
  • Responsible for communicating and explaining company policies and labor contract provisions to workers and enforces safety regulations. Analyzes and assists in the resolution of work problems.
  • Maintains time and production records. Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Assures waste or chemical containers are in good condition without splits, cracks, corrosion, severe dents, or leaks, and assures that when moving waste and chemical containers with forklift, care is taken not to puncture or squeeze with forks. Assures proper waste labels are affixed and information is legible and complete with proper start dates and visible from aisle for inspection. Assures waste container lids are able to close and be sure they are fastened. Assures waste containers must be kept closed unless adding or removing contents to prevent spills. Assure that wastes are disposed of properly, not on the ground or open or improper containers. Assure that hazardous and non-hazardous wastes are not mixed with other hazardous and non-hazardous wastes. Being sure wastes and chemicals are used only in designated containers and containers are not overfilled. Report missing or damaged environmental signs and see to it that they are replaced. Report excessively dusty pavement and be sure it is washed down or call for an extra run of the sweeper. Assure that spills of oil, hydraulic fluid, chemicals, slag, dross, diesel, wrecker mud, etc is cleaned up as the spill occurs and put into appropriate containers. Report materials as they are used so as to keep materials in stock. Assure that materials are contained and cleaned up to minimize spread until repairs are made. Report to your supervisor any cracks, gaps or corrosion in secondary containment areas to ensure containment of spills. Assure that the process is operating in control and not production any fugitive emissions. Assure that equipment is thoroughly pressure washed to remove any residues and record the cleaning on trip ticket per NESHAPS SOP, and clean up any materials tracked outdoors by equipment. Ensure equipment or products are pressure washed thoroughly to remove any residues and are dust free before storing outdoors. Be sure equipment accesses and man-doors are closed to maximize negative pressure. Ensure pallets/containers are in good condition prior to stacking to prevent spills Assure to stage only enough scrap that can be processed within the same day. Ensure backup is assigned to complete inspection if primary inspector is absent and ensure the deficiencies are noted and corrective measures documented on the forms.
  • All signs throughout department must not be damaged and the writing must be clean and clear. All faded signs must be replaced. Signs include but not limited to: Chemicals, Safety, Health and Confined Spaces.
  • Other duties as assigned.
