PURPOSE STATEMENT

Lead the development and commercialization of medium to high complexity projects to develop and commercialize innovations for new and renovated products and processes, and cost savings initiatives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/OUTCOMES

With guidance, execute medium to high complexity product and process development activities from concept to commercialization . Accurately identifies project requirements applying the right production capability, ingredients, formulation, and design to match customer needs, product specifications, and financial targets.

Conducting internal sensory evaluations, product applications, and shelf life/ stress testing to determine acceptability of prototypes and competitive products for customers and consumers.

Follow established guidelines and protocol, scientific approach and statistical analysis in product development, plant trials, plant start ups, sensory, shelf-life stability studies, capability studies, and specifications development

Provide technical support to resolve medium to high complexity production and quality issues, identifying root cause, develop and implement solutions including training QA/Operations personnel on findings within assigned product category.

Support an environment that fosters innovation by continually introducing ideas and product concepts for new products, quality improvements, and productivity and facilitate calculated risk taking.

Support the development and implementation of raw material strategy in collaboration with supply chain group and external vendors for differentiated new product performance and quality or cost reduction.

Provide technical and business risk assessment /perspectives related to new product development and technical brand stewardship activities.

Leads, trains and mentors technicians. Provides technical advice to others within specialty

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemical/Food/Biological/Mechanical or related field with 4 years food product and/or process development and project management experience from concept through commercialization. OR M.S. Food Science, Chemical/Food/Biological/Mechanical Engineer or related fields with 2 years food product and/or process development from concept through commercialization OR PhD Food Science, Chemical/Food/Biological/Mechanical Engineer or related field

Demonstrated experience to independently apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques, interpret data through sound experimental design and statistical analysis

Demonstrated experience in leading multiple high complexity projects within assigned product category in a cross-functional environment while delivering significant results

Solid understanding of food systems, ingredients, packaging, and processing interactions, experimental design and statistical analysis

Demonstrated experience to deal with ambiguity and can comfortable manage risks, changing priorities, and uncertainty.

Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work across functions and influence both above and below level

Proficient project management skills

Solid PC proficiency (Excel, Word, database, statistical software) and the ability to create spreadsheets, computer analysis, report writing. Proficient with relevant software tools (e.g. PLM, etc.)

Ability to use database, presentation and project management software beneficial

Travels regularly, up to 30%. Under special circumstances (e.g. plant start-ups) may be away from the Home Office for an extended duration

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced environment
Lift up to 30 lbs.
Stand for 6 or more hours during the work day
Ability to compare and distinguish differences in ingredients, materials, etc. through taste, smell, touch and visual inspection
Manual dexterity required to operate various equipment such as scales, balances, etc.
