Purpose:
The director manages and oversees all aspects of the CCNS ministry, under the auspices and direction of the CCNS Commission (governing board). The director develops on-going, mutually responsive relationships with families and the community, creating an environment of trust and respect that leads to a partnership for the educational benefit of each child who attends the preschool. The director demonstrates emotional stability, exhibits intellectual curiosity, maintains professional standards for self and builds positive, supportive relationships with colleagues. S/he encourages and guides all staff to strive for best practice in their respective positions. The director professes a Christian faith, displays spiritual maturity, adheres to the tenets of belief of the Riverside Covenant Church, imparts Christian beliefs to and prays for staff, families and children, maintains a faithful church affiliation. The director as an employee of RCC will also form positive, supportive relationships with RCC staff and the RCC church community.

In addition, the director serves as the educational coordinator for the preschool, supervising teachers and developing the program of professional development for the entire staff.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Experience:
● Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education,
Human Development or Child Development from an approved institution of Higher Education
● RI Department of Education teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood Special Education Childhood
● RI Early Learning & Development Standards, Level I, II & III certificates
● At least one year of professional experience in administration and/or business management
● At least two years of experience working in a licensed/approved early childhood program
● 12 credits in early childhood education at the post-secondary level
Preferred experience:
● Annual professional development/educational coursework
● 3-5 years experience as assistant director or director

Director Expectations:

Administrative Responsibilities (Included but not limited to):
● Maintain appropriate licenses for the program (RI DHS required,
BrightStars, RIDE and other quality rating systems optional)
● Schedule and maintain all building inspections (Fire, Lead, Radon,
Asbestos, Building,…)
● Complete fire drills according to RIDE requirements
● Routinely examine all indoor/outdoor equipment to ensure safety
● Review inventory/order necessary supplies
● Oversee facility/classroom cleanliness
● Inspect facility for routine maintenance needs. Report to RCC Properties Manager and/or schedule/hire appropriate persons to complete tasks.
● Maintain and oversee financial solvency of program in conjunction with
bookkeeper/treasurer (annual budget, staff salaries, fundraising
efforts, grant writing, daily expenditures…) and Commission chair
● Review and revise annually all communication given to staff and parents,
including Policies and Procedure, Staff Handbook and Parent Handbook
● Establish an annual calendar based on EP Public Schools: maintain a daily
calendar of school events
● Coordinate use of building with RCC calendar
● Determine/communicate school cancellations due to weather or
emergency circumstances.
● Maintain shared space agreement with RCC

CCNS Commission (Included but not limited to):
● Report to CCNS commission for policy and administrative direction, help and support
● Attend monthly CCNS commission meetings; prepare director’s report
● Prepare CCNS budget recommendations for commission with assistance
from commission chair and bookkeeper

Riverside Covenant Church
● Meet with RCC Pastor as necessary for spiritual guidance
● Review annual plan for prayer meetings and chapel with RCC pastor
● Attend weekly RCC staff meetings during the school year
● Meet with RCC stewardship commission to plan CCNS annual contribution to church operations
● Communicate maintenance needs to Properties Commission
● Meet as requested (at least once annually) with the RCC Leadership Community
● Attend the annual RCC congregational business meeting

Staff (Included but not limited to):
● Hire/provide orientation training for all staff with consultation of Commission chair and educational coordinator
● Provide all returning staff with contracts by May 15 for the following school year; provide each teacher with classroom placement
● Plan regular staff meetings and/or email communication for encouragement, information updates, planning sessions, problem solving, professional development opportunities, prayer support…
● Maintain open and honest communication with all staff
● Provide direction and guidance for each staff member
● Plan/execute Staff Orientation for August
● Observe/review staff members annually, including a self-evaluation
● from each staff person
● Plan/complete End-of-Year responsibilities with staff
● Inform Commission by May meeting of any staff not returning the following year in order to proceed with the approved hiring process for new staff

Families/Community (Included but not limited to):
● Inform the general public of programs offered at CCNS
(newspapers, brochures, web page, email, social media sites, yellow pages,
Open House…)
● Respond to all inquiries regarding the school in a timely manner (telephone, email, letter, visit…)
● Complete all registration responsibilities and details
● Plan and implement a Parent Orientation night
● Plan and implement family engagement events throughout the year
● Oversee the cooperative program, including parent workshops
● Oversee Parent/Teacher conference schedules
● Communicate all school events to families (monthly newsletter, memos, email, web
page, social media sites, bulletin board, phone calls…)
● Provide emotions/spiritual support to parents if, needed
● Provide resource information for specific educational/health needs
● Offer social/educational programs to parents throughout the year
● Distribute/review an annual program evaluation to all parents

Program (Included but not limited to):
● Supervise the development of a curriculum aligned with the RI Early Learning & Development
Standards (RIELDS)
● Provide teaching staff with appropriate resources to develop daily classroom plans
● Prepare for the opening of school:
Classroom readiness-cleanliness, organization, materials
Playground Readiness-maintenance, repair, mulch…

● Assign room placement and provide roster of students/student files
● Plan/implement special events throughout the year, including field
trips and family engagement events
● Complete End-of-Year responsibilities

Storage room/staff room organization
Year-end financial audit by RCC auditors

Teaching
Depending on the number of classes enrolled, the director may also choose to serve as a teacher in one of the classrooms. This would be mutually agreed upon.

Marketing and Development
Use social media platforms to keep the face of CCNS in front of prospective families including churches, places where children and families gather, libraries, etc.
