BDR is s eeking a Portfolio Risk Manager to join our growing team! This position will be performed virtually from the individual's home office working on EST time schedule. This position requires US Citizenship with an MBI (Moderate Background Investigation) or the ability to obtain one.
Portfolio Risk Manager - (Military Veterans are highly encouraged to apply)
Role Overview:
- Seeking a Portfolio Risk Manager focusing on ownership for identifying, prioritizing, and coordinating product, product line, and portfolio risks by engaging with all initiatives within the BAM portfolio.
- The position is also responsible for senior executive engagement and reporting on the state of portfolio risks to higher level VA leadership.
- This role assumes the overarching responsibility for supporting organizational and IT leadership in developing the model/technology (Jira) for VA wide reporting of operational risks.
- Work with product, Product line, and portfolio teams to manage/oversee the full range of the project life cycle (initiate, plan, execute, close) risks by creating strategies for risk mitigation and formulate complex project/program plans and schedules.
- Conduct regular meetings with the senior executive bodies to inform and alert them of any issues arising from the performance of the individual projects within the portfolio to assure the on-plan usage and consumption of resources and funding, and to highlight any variances.
- Work with external to the Portfolio Leadership to standardize escalation/use of Jira as Risk tool.
- Proactively track and update Portfolio level risks/ability to make recommendations to Senior leadership in the context of organizational norms and politics on escalations.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on the system(s) risks and represent the VA product team.
- Document risks and associated data in Jira and subsequently Jira Align.
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Information Systems, or other related discipline ( 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)
- Obtain a MBI (Moderate Background Investigation) clearance
- 5 of years of experience and other qualifications
- Experience working as a contractor or an employee for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or similar government agency.
- Fluent experience in the use of Jira or Jira Align.
- Extensive experience in the review of program risk data, create overall view of program risk based on individual discrete risk elements; coordinate with program team to identify new creative and strategic approaches for managing risks.
- Experience in briefing senior staff on risk status using routine, ad hoc, written and oral reports. Experience in risk treatment by selecting and implementing measures to control and mitigate risks including activities to avoid risks, transfer risks and finance risks; and be able to monitor and review processes to ensure risk and compliance arrangements are in place.
- Experience in conducting audits of policy and compliance to standards, including liaison with internal and external auditors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with brevity and clarity.
- Experience working in a consulting environment and understanding of client/customer relations/ ability to make recommendations to Senior leadership in the context of organizational norms and politics on escalations .
- Experience using Jira, Risk Management Tools, MS Teams, MS office and SharePoint
- Knowledge of end-to-end systems, particularly with excellent industry knowledge and expertise (compensation & pension).
- Ability to work under pressure, coordinate multiple assignments at once, and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Certification(s): Jira Align, Jira Administration, Agile practice certification (e. g. SAFe), Risk Management
