The University of California Police Department provides a full range of law enforcement services in support of the academic and public service missions of the University of California, serving a diverse community of more than 41,000 students and 14,000 faculty & staff in the vibrant City of Berkeley, at the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to the traditional role of a police department we also carry out a variety of proactive educational, outreach and crime prevention programs. University Police is recruiting for seven (7) Police Officer Trainees.Applications will be accepted until all postions have been filled.

Responsibilities
Attend a California POST police academy. Upon successful graduation from the police academy, the incumbent will be sworn in as a Police Officer. Under direct supervision, patrols a designated area of campus to prevent and discover the commission of crime and to enforce traffic and parking regulations. Under direct supervision, answers calls and complaints, taking the necessary police action under guidance of more senior officer. Under direct supervision, takes proper police action at scene of crime (for example, administers first aid, gathers evidence, locates witnesses and makes arrest) under guidance of more senior officer. Works with Berkeley PD as required. Investigates situations suspected to be in noncompliance with campus laws and ordinances. Performs necessary clerical tasks (writing reports, etc.) associated with police work.
Required Qualifications

Demonstrated verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with a diverse community.
Education

High school diploma and / or equivalent certification /experience / training.
Certifications

Must complete a basic law enforcement training program and obtain certification.
Conditions

Incumbents are required to be enrolled in an accredited police academy offering POST course requirements at the basic level.
Passing scores on the POST Reading & Writing Test (PELLETB) and Physical Ability Test. Link to California POST website https://post.ca.gov/LE-Entry-Level-Test-Battery-Applicant-FAQs .
NOTE: The selection process will include an interview, and successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation and medical and psychological evaluations.
Preferred Qualifications

Basic knowledge in the following areas: First Aid / CPR, campus streets, buildings, and parking lots, general law enforcement procedures, vehicle laws, use of firearms.
Observes situations analytically, impartially, and objectively, and to record pertinent information accurately and completely.
Salary & Benefits
