Educational Specialist / Literacy Interventionist
Cristo Rey San José Jesuit High School is hiring for a full-time Science teacher for the 2023-2024 school
year. The position will be teaching 5 sections in the Science department. All teachers will be granted a
standard prep period plus additional prep time due to our unique Corporate Work Study Program.

Position Summary:
The literacy interventionist is a Tier 2 intervention for students who have been identified as needing
intensive behavioral and/or academic support. This role provides individualized support and case
management services to targeted students, in order to help them achieve academic success in all subject
areas; plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of
educational settings; is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides
specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general
education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aids,
accommodations, and other needed supports. The Education Specialist provides instructional direct
services within the general education classroom and provides indirect services to the general education
teacher.
Advocate for students with disabilities and/or special needs
- Evaluate and provides recommendations and/or guidance to improve curriculum planning,
- Help coordinate and communicate expectations and progress among students' parents/guardians,
- Use a variety of assessment data, including grades, NWEA performance, and teacher observations
- Use a variety of diagnostic assessments, including the CORE Reading Maze, the Dibels/ORF, the
CORE Vocabulary Screener, and the Scholastic Reading Inventory, to determine students’ literacy
needs
- Confer one-on-one with intervention students to set individualized goals and create action plans
- Provide 1:1 and small-group instruction/intervention students to support the development of their
- Collaborate with content-area teachers to tailor instruction to their classes, receive input on
strategies for supporting students in a classroom setting
- Monitor student progress and confer with students one-on-one about ongoing progress
- Use a variety of assessments to measure student growth
- Manage a caseload of no more than 58 students (no more than 15 students per grade)
- Communicate with students’ families about student progress, strengths, needs, and individualized
plans for academic support to nurture a supportive and cooperative relationship between home
and school
- Teach a class focused on the development of general academic skills, such as: goal-setting,
organizing one’s time and physical materials
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of students one day a week; help students to navigate their
- Serve as a moderator of student clubs and activities or a coach of athletic teams as needed. Serve
as a chaperone/leader of field trips, immersion experiences, retreats, Christian Service
opportunities, and other activities.
- Serve as a morning, break, lunch, or afterschool prefect approximately 2 times per week.
- Understand and appreciate the developmental and educational benefits of the school’s Corporate
- Develop relationships with and meet the individual needs of each student consistent with the
school’s belief in cura personalis, or “care for the whole individual.” Makes referrals to school
leaders and counseling teams to identify and support students who are struggling behaviorally or
emotionally.
- Participate in departmental and grade-level meetings to coordinate curriculum across the content

the Catholic, Jesuit mission of the school through continuous spiritual and personal growth and by
serving as a leader of faith, service, and justice for our students.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree with relevant major, Master’s degree, Teaching Credential, or professional

SALARY AND COMPENSATION
Range between $67,601 and $130,349 on a salary schedule based on education and years of
experience. Full time employees are eligible for the following benefits: medical, dental, vision,
and retirement. Employees’ premiums are covered for medical, dental and vision at 100% and
dependents at 50% if elected. This position is eligible for enrollment in the group voluntary
retirement plan – 403b.
