DESCRIPTION:
Frontier Performance Polymers Corporation is a multi-disciplined engineering company specializing in developing and manufacturing high performance and lightweight solutions using advanced plastic materials for defense and commercial industries.
We are looking for a Plastic Operation Manager with experiences and/or expertise in operating and managing lab-scale prototype lines and full-scale plastic film and sheet production lines involving twin screw compounders, sheet/film extrusion line, unidirectional MDO film stretching line and injection molding machines. Excellent plastic material and experience in plastic processing are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES (includes, but not limited to):
Working directly under the Director of Operation and/or President, this position is responsible for managing a diverse team of engineers and technicians for the production to support internal research and development and to manufacture the final products to support the sales objectives. The Plastic Operations Manager shall ensure all the machines are properly maintained and operational at all times, manage the production schedules and changeover to achieve the best operational efficiency, develop and implement manufacturing process technologies necessary to scale production to high volumes. The prospective candidate shall bring an open mindset, challenge the status quo with regards to traditional vs. emerging technologies and utilize a logical and disciplined approach to evaluate and select the correct set of solutions.
REQUIREMENTS (includes, but not limited to):
· Lead a team of engineers and technicians, be responsible for managing laboratory-scale and production-scale processes relating to resin compounding, sheet/film extrusion, mono-directional orientation (MDO) film stretching, plastic injection molding etc.
· Develop team through a strong performance based management process, mentor and teach team members, create an environment to encourage the participation of the team members, pay attention to safety practices of all employees.
· Perform inventory management for all the raw materials and manufactured products and develop a track system to monitor the inventory levels.
· Must possess good knowledge in industrial safety requirements, particularly for plastic processing business and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
· Identify, recruit, and develop individual contributor talent and leadership within the organization. Evaluate project scope according to team's skillset including labor and resourcing estimation.
· Must work closely with the engineering group to produce the prototype samples for their evaluations and to transition the products from R&D to production scale.
· Must be willing to take ownership, love to take challenges, have the ability to overcome technical barriers and be self-motivated.
· Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with challenging deadlines and are willing to work long hours to get the job done within schedule.
· Lead and manage production process changeover
· Hold a weekly meeting with the key members of the production team to review all the issues happened during the past week, develop plans to resolve these issues, address any safety concerns or issues, review production or trial schedules, etc., and submit a meeting summary to company’s executives.
· Provide a weekly production report that outlines the production schedule progresses and delays, critical issues needed to be addressed, manpower and resources issues, machine maintenance, identify the potential bottleneck and make recommendations on the improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical discipline
- More than 2 years of experience in a leadership position
- More than 10 years of industry production or process design/development experience within production or integration systems
- Experience taking products from R&D into production.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master's degree or PhD in an engineering discipline is preferred but not required.
- More than 5 years of experience in a leadership position in a manufacturing environment
- Experience transitioning products from R&D to manufacturing and scaling to high volume production.
- Experience with plastic manufacturing processes like resin compounding or extrusion in a production setting and has a good understanding of the manufacturing costs and managing tight schedule.
- Experience defining and assessing quality standards associated with plastic manufacturing processes including raw materials, compounded resin and final products.
CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Some limited travel may be required.
- Ability to lift up to 30 Ibs and occasionally up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Standing/walking for long periods of time.
· Must have the ability to meet company’s production and quality goals.
- Willingness to work long hours and weekends as necessary to accommodate manufacturing and test schedules.
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), this position must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary range:
$120,000 to $160,000 annually depending upon the qualification, job-related knowledge, achievements, experiences, technical skills, and education.
Benefits include paid holidays, sick days, vacation days, medical/dental insurance, performance bonus, company contributed 401K and profit sharing in accordance with the company’s policies.
