Job description
We are looking for a Permit Technician to join the City of Charleston's Public Services Division! In this role, you will issue licenses and permits to qualified applicants.
- Questions applicants to obtain information such as name, address, and age, and records data on prescribed forms.
- Evaluates information obtained to determine applicant qualification for licensure.
- Contacts customers if there are any problems during the permitting and licensing process.
- Responds to contractors inquires about permissions granted by Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation licensure.
- Responds to inquiries regarding permit requirements and processes.
- Collects prescribed fees, including contacting delinquent accounts.
- Maintains files and logs of permits issued and provides statistical information on permits.
- Create reports to identify delinquent accounts.
- Creates and updates department applications and forms.
- Prepares certificates of occupancy.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree (AA/AS); and six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel (including the ability to create spreadsheets using formulas).
- Ability to type a minimum of 35 words per minute by touch.
