Automotive Parts Supervisor (ad closes May 24, 2023)
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under direction of the supervisor of Automotive Maintenance, is responsible for the central and three satellite automotive parts room operations, including supervision of the automotive parts clerk I positions at the central shop and the satellite automotive parts clerk positions. Ensures the effective procuring, receiving, stocking, and proper dispensing of parts, materials, and supplies for the MCPS fleet. Maintains close liaison with MCPS and county government purchasing/procurement divisions to ensure accurate parts
CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Possession of a valid Maryland state commercial class B driver's license or equivalent
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the practices and techniques of automotive repair. Considerable knowledge of the parts, tools, accessories, and materials used in automotive repair. Considerable knowledge and understanding of parts manuals, catalogues, and cross-reference materials. Knowledge of computerized parts inventory and control systems. Knowledge of preparing bids, writing specifications, and working with procurement personnel and vendor representatives to insure the timely supply of proper parts and equipment.Considerable ability to effectively plan, organize, and coordinate the operation of a large and multilocation parts room operation; administer vendor contracts and evaluate the acceptability and substitutability of items; train and supervise employees; communicate effectively and deal tactfully and effectively with people. Considerable skill in analyzing problems concerning all aspects of the parts room operation and recommending or implementing actions to overcome such problems in the day-to-day parts operation. Skill in dealing effectively with vendor representatives, analyzing bids and making recommendations concerning awarding contracts. Excellent human relations and oral and written communications skills. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. College coursework in business administration, marketing, and/or related fields preferred. Considerable experience in inventory management systems, both computerized and manual; vehicle repair concepts; and the purchasing, receiving, storing and distribution of a wide variety of automotive parts, supplies, and materials. Experience as a supervisor and/or supervisory courses or training required. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associates degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
