REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • For All Paraprofessional IV:
  • Meet the Highly Qualified Personnel standards/ Obtained an Associate’s (or higher) degree; or Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 hours); or received a passing grade on the Para Pro

Assessment and High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and

  • Successful completion of the VCS’ substitute teacher training course (STAR) within one (1) year of the date of hire and
  • Successfully complete twelve (12) hours of approved staff development training for assigned program annually and
  • Academic skills to assist with classroom instruction preferred (Grade Level K-5 Math, Language Arts, and Reading)
  • Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) is required for paraprofessionals working in SC-E/BD, Multi VE, and

Pre-K programs. Maintenance of certification and ability to perform as a crisis intervention team member are critical performance responsibilities in these settings. Inability to participate as an effective crisis team member may impact continued employment in those roles.

  • Additional requirement for Exceptional Student Education (ESE) [41401 E/BD, 41405 Physically Impaired/Hearing _ Impaired, 41409 ESE Support, and 41411 Vision] Paraprofessionals_

: Certification by the Florida Department of Children and Families (FDCF) of successful completion of the forty- (40) *hour Child Care training as prescribed by the program requirements within one year from the date of hire (must maintain certification requirements throughout employment)

  • Additional requirements to all of the above for Teen Parent [41407], Multi-VE Lifeskills [41402], Pre-K Multi-VE Lifeskills _ [41403], Pre-Kindergarten VE [41415], and Voluntary Pre-K Paraprofessionals [41417]_

: Certification of successful completion of the fifty (50) hours of training in the designated program area within four *years of the date of employment; the 40 hour (FDCF) Child Care Training (above) will count toward the 50 hours for

Pre-K ESE Lifeskills Paraprofessionals in the designated program area

  • Hold a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential by the Florida Department of Children and Families of the forty-

(40) hour Child Care Training series or an amount of training determined by the commissioner to be equivalent to or exceed the CDA (must maintain certification requirements throughout employment)

  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License; if a holder of any other valid US state-issued Driver’s License, agree to acquire a Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required
  • NOTE-VPK only: Effective 2010, must hold an Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child

POSITION GOAL

To assist the professional instructional staff in providing supervision and educational support services that are an integral part of teaching

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

1. *Work will be assigned at various schools at different intervals throughout the school year.
2. *Implement services for students with disabilities commensurate with policies and procedures.
3. *Assist other paraprofessionals in implementation of all performance responsibilities.
4. *When necessary to accommodate students with disabilities, the position category may require you to: a) *Provide general medication administration only after attending the required generalized training as assigned, b) *Provide assistance to students in activities of daily living, self-care, self-management, and ensure physical safety during regular intervals as directed by the teacher, c) *Assist teacher in implementation of behavioral and/or physical care plans, d) *Assist in the provision of grooming, toileting, and hygiene activities and/or instructions to students as assigned, e) *Assist in eating and feeding activities, as assigned, f) *Provide one-on-one tutoring for eligible students, g) *Assist with self-care tasks, h) *Act as a translator, when necessary.

5. *Work with students in small group settings relative to classroom assignments or activities in a professional manner as directed by the teacher.

6. *Assist with monitoring routines regarding attendance and all required documentation.
7. *Only after successful completion of the substitute teacher training course (STAR) and under the direction and planning of the teacher, provide supervision of students in various settings to include community-based instruction.
8. *Assist the teacher in the delivery of instructions as requested.
9. *Perform preventive case management as necessary.
10. *Effectively utilize computer software (e.g. e-mail and word processing) and educational programs as required to document and report on the program.
11. *Accurately assess student performance requiring objective evaluation as assigned.
12. *Keep in confidence personally identifiable information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
13. *Assist in the management of appropriate student behavior to maintain an environment conducive to learning, including crisis intervention as needed.
14. *Assist in the physical management and positioning of students, as directed by the teacher or other related professional(s).
15. *Abide by all procedures and policies of the school board, state rules and laws, and other governing laws and rules.
16. *Provide outstanding customer service by: a) Accompany students to and from campus areas outside the classroom as required, such as to the area where medical needs are performed and when assigned; accompany the teacher and students on approved field trips; accompany students as required to courses in other locations on campus; accompany students to the cafeteria for breakfast and/or lunch participation; accompany students in community settings; and escort transported students to and from the classroom upon arrival and dismissal-when employee’s scheduled work hours allow, b) Assisting in the monitoring of students during recesses or special activities, c) Using positive interpersonal communication skills and nurturing encouragement to students, d) *Assisting in the displaying of students’ work or accomplishments, e) *Assisting in the organization, distribution, reproduction, and management of instructional and/or assessment materials, f) *Assisting in distributing to and collecting information from parents about the school, as directed, g) *Conduct parental involvement activities as assigned, h) *Assisting with library or media center activities, i) *Updating charts associated with the classroom operation.

17. Perform other related duties as assigned by the School Principal/Administrator or Program Specialist.

Working Conditions (conditions the worker will be subject in a position)
Indoors & Outdoors - The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. And there is no effective protection from weather conditions such as wind, moisture, sunlight, extreme temperature changes, etc.

A. Health Hazards - The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, and exposure to high heat or chemicals.
