About the facility:
The Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF) is based in Chinle, Arizona (Northeast Arizona near Canyon De Chelly National Monument). The CCHCF is a 60-bed hospital which serves as the health care hub for the region. The medical staff includes Family Physicians, Internists, Pediatricians, General Surgeons, OB/GYN's, Anesthesiologists, and a Psychiatrist. In addition to routine outpatient and inpatient primary care, services available to our patients include: Adult Intensive Care, General Surgery (including laparoscopic surgery), routine and operative Obstetrics, and 24-Hour Emergency Room Services. Health care services are provided to approximately 37,000 active users. Strong Navajo cultural traditions exist within the community, offering an opportunity to learn the Navajo language, or to learn about traditional Navajo medicine. The service unit is located on the Colorado Plateau with excellent opportunities for photography, hiking, running, road biking, cross country skiing, and mountain biking. Canyon de Chelly National Monument is within 5 miles of the hospital and is a wonderful place for exploring and sightseeing, running and mountain biking.
Duties:
Provide professional nursing service in direct patient care as follows:
A. shall provide full range of Obstetrical and newborn infant care to patients admitted to Obstetric Care Unit (OCU).
B. shall exercise knowledge of the nursing process and its application to clinical practice in order to provide individualized, goal-oriented nursing care to the laboring, postpartum, antepartum and newborn patients.
C. shall exercise knowledge of scientific and psychosocial nursing theory, principles, spiritual, and social-cultural needs of the Indian patient.
D. shall exercise knowledge of biological aspects of disease processes and illness relating to Obstetrical and newborn infants and is able to recognize complications and implement appropriate nursing/therapeutic intervention required.
E. shall exercise knowledge of the medications and dosages in order to recognize their desired effects, side-effects, and complications of their use.
F. shall analyze the results of various medical procedures and translate them into appropriate nursing interventions.
G. shall work effectively and harmoniously within the health care team and with Indian patients and their families.
H. shall cross train to Women’s Health Clinic (WHC) when short staffed.
I. Inter-Facility Transports.
J. Provide appropriate documentation regarding care rendered using Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility's (CCHCF) Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. All Electronic Health Record related documentation by the provider shall be entered electronically using the Electronic Health Record system. The provider is responsible for utilizing the CCHCF EHR system to obtain pertinent patient information in assisting care. It is the responsibility of the provider to use the training resources provided by the CCHCF to develop competency in utilizing the Electronic Health Record system, as it relates to the Obstetric and Neonatal patients.
K. Follows facility policies and procedures, the Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Indian Health Services (IHS), Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN), American College of Gynecologists (ACOH), and other federal licensing, accreditation and regulating body standards.
L. Provides guidance to other staff regarding clinical decisions. Assist with and ensures unit is in compliance with daily quality checks.
Work Schedule:
- 11.5 Hours for days, 12 hours for nights; totaling 6-7 shifts/2 week period, including weekends, holidays, rotating day and night shifts, as scheduled by the SCN based on the unit’s needs for coverage. With one hour lunch for day shift and thirty minutes for night shift.
The Supervisor at each IHS facility shall determine specific tour of duty
Requirements:- Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by applicant.
- shall have thirty-six (36) months of nursing experience, with a minimum of twelve months (12) in the specialty required by the contract, unless otherwise approved by the Contracting Officer.
- shall have experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. (i.e. performs own blood draws, Starts IV’s, initiates CRP, etc).
- All nurses shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
Certifications:
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) and Fetal Monitoring Certification (for Labor & Delivery position) are mandatory. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nurse Critical Care (TNCC), and Nurse Specialty certification (e.g., CNOR, Fetal monitoring) is preferred for each appropriate duty section at the time of employment and throughout the term of this contract.
Medical Evaluation. The Contractor shall provide a fitness for duty certificate issued by a licensed physician to perform the proposed job without significant risk to personal health or the health and safety of others.
