Job Summary:
Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland is seeking a full-time Nutrition Services Manager to join our Nutrition Services team! This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating activities of both the Clinical and Food services department for patients, families, staff and volunteers in compliance with Hospital rules, local, State and Joint Commission regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Develops the department budget within established guidelines/deadlines.
- Creates/maintains systems to analyze and improve department/division efficiency and performance.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and ability to develop, maintain, monitor and implement/administer department/division goals objectives, policies and procedures.
- Coordinates and integrates departmental operations with other departments and overall Hospital program by analyzing and considering the impact on all other affected hospital departments prior to all planning/implementing action plans.
- Maintains a departmental staffing plan to provide an adequate number of staff whose individual competency and qualifications are consistent with assigned job responsibilities.
- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to evaluate pediatric patients’ nutritional needs based on relevant data from the medical record, demographic, and psychosocial information, and lab results. Includes:
- Assessment of patient’s learning needs, barriers to learning, preferred learning styles, and educational level, religious, cultural, and ethnic factors to provide nutrition education accordingly.
- Accurately calculates protein, calorie, and fluid requirements to meet age-specific needs of patients.
- Identifies age-related factors that may influence nutritional assessment.
- Is knowledgeable of therapeutic diets and demonstrates the ability to use the SHC diet manual as a resource.
- Identifies appropriate enteral products and supplements to meet patients’ needs.
- Collaborates with the patient and/or family member, and healthcare team to assess the nutrition and education needs of patients.
- Maintains inventory levels necessary for providing food and nutrition program, keeping accurate written records of all food items purchased, donated, and used.
- Provides services and establishes goals based on the identified needs of patients and/or family members.
- Participates in the coordination of community resources to facilitate ongoing care for individuals.
- Develops, implements, and communicates to other care providers (within and outside Shriners) the individual’s nutrition plan of care.
- Identifies, monitors, and evaluates Medical Nutrition therapy plans.
- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to plan and implement in-service training for department staff, other individual departments, and hospital-wide programs.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate records of all purchased food items and the number of meals served, and to follow cash management procedures in accordance with established hospital accounting practices.
Minimum Qualifications/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Dietitian license in the State of Oregon
- Health Department Food Handlers Card
- 5 years of food service and clinical experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience managing programs treating pediatric obesity and/or undernourished pediatric populations
