Under the supervision and cooperation of the Director, the supervisor oversees the daily processes of the nursing unit to ensure that safe, evidence based care is provided. The supervisor contributes to the overall corporate objectives by providing leadership to the unit, assisting with financial management and maintaining policies. The supervisor serves as the Critical Care Educator and will assess, implement and evaluate the associate’s education needs to promote quality patient outcomes. The Critical Care Educator implements processes to support evidence based practice in the delivery of quality health care enhancing patient satisfaction and quality goals.
Position Summary:
- Provides positive leadership by an environment of teamwork, open communication and customer service.
- Responsible for human resources processes including interviewing and orientating staff, ongoing performance management and timekeeping/scheduling and required documentation.
- Assists with financial management by developing and maintaining budget, strives to keep operations within benchmarks and communicates variances.
- Ensures the compliance of policies and work instructions with regulatory standards to improve the overall operations of the facility.
- Maintains familiarity with all relevant emergency management policies and procedures; participates in drills and post-event debriefings and provides constructive input to improve the processes.
- Collaborates with the Director of Critical Care and ICU Medical Director for overall operation of the ICU and care of patients.
- Assists with the maintenance schedules on equipment and ensures that equipment is safe for patients and personnel.
- Collects pertinent information related to potential education needs of the staff.
- Analyzes the assessment data to determine the learner needs.
- Identifies the general purpose and educational objectives that are measurable for each learning activity.
- Identifies and collaborates with content experts to develop activities to facilitate learners' achievement of the educational objectives.
- Provides staff education/coaching, serves as a preceptor and assists with all components of the RN Residency Program.
- Participates in and utilizes evidence based research for improving staff education activities, nursing practice and staff outcomes.
- Maintains accurate records of staff competencies by documentation and administration of e-learning modules.

Requirements at HMC Emergency Department
Must be a Registered Nurse from an accredited school of nursing Bachelors Degree in Nursing (BSN) required or must be enrolled in a program to be completed within one year.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification
Specific information and the timeline in which such certification must be attained will be provided by the department director at the time of hire/transfer into the department Knowledge of general nursing theory and practice.

Current Kansas Registered Nurse License Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or must have an approved plan to obtain BSN approved by chief nursing officer
Knowledge of general nursing and practice required.
Must have project management skills and the ability to initiate process improvement and maintain regulatory compliance.
Minimum of one year experience caring for patients with orthopedic diseases and disorders such as arthritis, bone fractures, broken bones and joint replacements.
Maintains a minimum of 4 hours CNE annually in Knee/Hip education.
Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) or Orthopedic Nurse Certification (ONC) required or must obtain within three years of hire.
