Description:

Position Summary
Under the administrative direction of the ACNO or Director, the Hospital Operations Administrator (HOA) RN represents UI Health management staff by providing administrative direction and support to all departments and areas. The HOA RN will report and document all violations of the rules, regulations and policies of UI Health. The HOA RN exemplifies the UI Health mission, vision, values, and acts in accordance with UI Health policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Act as the Emergency Incident Commander during situations of extreme crises to coordinate and ensure that basic hospital functions continues, while managing the crisis.
  • Represent the Management Staff and policies of Public Relations in situations involving the News Media, Fire and Police Departments, as well as all other public agencies to preserve the image of UI Health.
  • Provide administrative supervision to all areas of non-clinical care and clerical for direction, problem solving and discipline. Develop effective clinical strategies to lead and support decision making and actions for clinical staff and patient care units. May intervene and take immediate action when the supervisor and/or nursing leadership is unwilling or unable to do so.
  • Mentor and coach nursing staff and create an environment of professional growth by demonstrating proficient leadership skills at the nursing division level.
  • Initiate investigation of incidents that will result in liability exposure to UI Health and make notification to the department of Risk Management.
  • Deliver timely reports/communication to department directors in regards to operational problems that occur within their respective departments. Work closely with all nursing units to resolve staffing issues and concerns.
  • Receive and take necessary action upon receiving complaints from patients, visitors and staff. Serve as clinical authority and resource.
  • Locate and procure material and human resources that are necessary for the continuous operation of the UI Health.
  • Take whatever action is necessary to ensure quality patient care and the integrity of UI Health. Attend all emergency situations in the Hospital/Clinics and provide clinical administrative assistance and support as well as provide feedback regarding the effectiveness of emergency responses.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois.
    • Bachelor degree in nursing or health related field and 2 years supervisory/administrative experience in a health care field

      OR
    • Four years of supervisory/administrative experience in a health care field.
  • Two years of work experience as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Master’s Degree preferred in Nursing, Hospital Administration, Public Health, or Business. Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience, preferably in an academic health care setting.
  • Minimum of three years healthcare supervisory experience in progressive hospital/nursing management positions preferably with broad hospital/patient care management responsibilities.
  • Nursing Certification required or within 1 year of hire.
