The Rescue Mission is opening a Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) Shelter for the greater Syracuse’s unhoused youth, aged 0-18. We are looking for someone passionate to run this program and help us reach our overall goal of reducing the total number of homeless individuals in the greater Syracuse area.
As approximately 40% of the unhoused youth in this area identify as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, this shelter will place a special focus on addressing those specific needs.
The RHY Shelter Program Manager will supervise, coach, train, and direct a multifaceted team delivering human services to the youth living in the RHY shelter. Additionally, they will manage processes and provide leadership and guidance in shift operations.
In this position you would be expected to oversee and participate in day to day shift operations including completing intakes and rounds, monitoring facilities, giving out personal care items and bedding, enforcing guidelines as appropriate and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
We are seeking a leader who will foster a team approach building rapport, problem solving, and networking with other Programs and departments in the Rescue Mission. This leader will provide continuity amongst our programs by cultivating an atmosphere of cooperation and caring consistent with the values of the Rescue Mission.
Requirements
- Valid NYS Driver License in compliance with company driving criteria required.
- B.A. in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related field required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of addiction recovery and/or mental health, advocacy, social work.
- Familiarity with LGBTQ+ challenges, as well as cultural and linguistic competency regarding age, ability, sexuality, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, class, and other characteristics that affect the lives of diverse youth.
- Experience in supervising, coaching and developing staff.
- Experience in public development and awareness.
- Prior experience working with homeless, addicted and/or mentally disabled clients desired.
- Approval from the Office of Child & Family Services (OCFS) is required.
- Sensitivity and compassion for the homeless population.
- Passion for the mission and vision of the organization.
