Education and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field, and two (2) years of experience in LAN/WAN network technical support or an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field and four (4) years of experience in LAN/WAN network technical support.
Licenses and Certificates: A Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent issued by another state by time of appointment.
Under general supervision provide technical support of network software and hardware.
Provide Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) support. Involves: Ensure that communications access, security, printing services, operating systems, electronic mail, desktop applications function properly and adhere to established standards. Consult with IT staff and customers regarding network operational issues.
Perform network system functions. Involves: adding users; defining, establishing and enforcing security access to data; identifying device access paths and availability; configuring network hardware; customizing applications to ensure proper functioning in a network environment. Maintain network documentation, such as topology diagrams, circuit/equipment inventories and configuration reports.
Monitor network performance. Involves: measuring computer, server and network resource performance and availability; using system software analysis programs and preparing reports of the analysis; analyzing traffic flow and volume on the networks; and adjusting network parameters to improve performance, minimize transmission errors and data collisions, and optimize user response times. Schedule and execute equipment repairs, preventative maintenance and network changes with minimal end user disruption per the guidelines of the Environmental Change Control Process.
Perform related network administration duties as required.
