Objective: The Music Assistant assists a certified teacher in the supervision and instruction of students and provides instructional and organizational support to music department teachers and staff.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides music accompaniment to students and staff.
• Assists the music department staff with a variety of tasks such as preparing instructional materials, running music sectional and administering musical assessments.
• Assists in coordination of music department events.
• Maintains student music and financial records.
• Maintains the music library.
• Prepares music programs, letters, and forms.
• Meets the diverse needs of students in the classroom by supporting an appropriate learning environment.
• Participates in school and district professional development activities.
• Maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and parents.
• Takes appropriate action in the event of an emergency.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to proficiently provide required musical accompaniment.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
• Ability to operate computers and spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
• Skill in arithmetic, grammar, spelling, recording and compiling material for reports.
• Skill in record keeping.
• Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, and parents.
• Ability to follow directions.
• Skill, dedication, and aptitude for working with students.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent; OR,
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with students in an educational setting.
• Experience in piano accompaniment.
• Post high school training in the field of music and/or music theory.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds.
