NEEDED: MRI Technologist
LOCATION: WJB Dorn VAMC: 6439 Garners Ferry Rd., Columbia, SC 29209
SCHEDULE: Rotating ten (10) hour shifts / Sunday through Saturday, 7:00AM – 5:30 PM
QUALIFICATIONS:
- U.S. Citizen
- Certification - Each MRI Technologist must be a qualified and experienced MRI Technologist and hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS), ARRT (R) and MRI (MR) national registry.
- BLS: Must maintain Basic Life Support certification
CLINICAL TASK/DUTIES:
- The Technologist is responsible for critiquing images for quality and notifying the Radiologist of significant exams requiring immediate attention while the patient is undergoing the examination. These exams are performed with and without contrast materials. Specific diagnostic patterns must be recognized during the test for optimum results.
- Follows all established guidelines, any alterations must be done with the approval of the Radiologist on duty.
- Independently accomplishes procedures, handles deviation in work assignments in the line with previous experience and observations.
- Uses judgment and initiative, relying on established protocols and past practice when a difficult decision must be made.
- MRI Technologists should be able to perform common MRI exams listed below:

- Must adhere to 2022 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) standards/guidelines.
- Prepares contrast material under the direction of the Radiologist for the purpose of performing procedures/exams requiring injectable solutions.
- Must have the ability to start IV’s, understand the effects and adverse reactions of contrast. Improper use or administration of contrast materials run the risk of patient mortality; therefore, it is essential that a thorough understanding of usage be possessed by those who prepare it.
- Must be continuously on the alert to the patient’s condition and other disorders. Adverse reactions on the part of the patient require immediate attention so that harm does not come to the patient or equipment.
