UVA's Office for Academic Outreach seeks a Business Manager to serve Morven Programs, the unit responsible for UVA's Sustainability Lab and all Morven programming activity on UVAF's Morven Farm. The Business Manager will manage daily operations of Morven Programs, primarily around budget, finance, human resources, and office administration. Morven programs seeks a detail-oriented professional who is skilled in financial and human resources matters, demonstrates excellent judgement, good work ethic and positive attitude, excellent intrapersonal skills, has experience with event or program management, is a team player, and has a passion for sustainability. The position will also work with the team to vision and execute Morven programming and events and will work closely with the Morven events coordinator and kitchen garden coordinator to set pricing and create event-specific budgets. This position is primarily located at Morven Farm (600 Morven Drive) though there is the option for partial telework.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a lead advisor to the Director.
  • Develop and prepare budgets and financial reports, undertake general financial reporting and administrative processes to ensure budgetary control and responsible fiscal oversight.
  • Manage internal control.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of business systems and processes. Recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Oversees document preparation, retention, and tracking. Ensures confidentiality of documentation and compliance with records retention requirements
  • Supervises the procurement of goods and services such as catering, transportation, marketing collateral, etc., according to financial regulations.
  • Partner with UVA HR to assist and provide guidance to the department in a variety of human resource activities including the recruitment and hiring process, compensation, employee relations and timecards.
  • Supervise student employees.
  • Provide Administrative oversight and support for the Morven Kitchen Garden Coordinator and Morven Events Coordinator.
  • Liaison with the UVA Foundation to manage accounts receivable for Morven events, and other financial matters related to UVAF and Morven.
  • Provide end-to-end event and program management support as needed.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality and appropriate discretion regarding sensitive materials. Exercises judgment and knowledge of the University culture and organizational structure to facilitate operations and ensure dissemination of information to the appropriate individuals in a manner consistent with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Provides support to the research and experiential learning environment to enhance the discovery and transfer of knowledge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: Two years of relevant exempt level experience in finance and budget. Relevant exempt level experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, and management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects and priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience with and commitment to working effectively with individuals with diverse backgrounds in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and editing skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and to provide direct support to leaders.
  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated financial planning expertise.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $65,000 - $75,000 commensurate with education and experience. This is an exempt level, benefited position.
