responsibilities:
The Medical Record Abstractor is responsible for following research protocols in order to abstract and capture data from the medical records of eligible cases for research studies within many clinical areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Required Level of Education and Preferred Level of Education: High School / GED; Associate Degree in Health Information Management preferred; or 2 years experience with medical records abstraction, nursing or equivalent experience.
- Experience performing medical records abstraction for research studies within many clinical areas.
- Experience documenting and entering results of medical records abstraction.
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Basic PC competency in computer skills listed above.
- Documentation of completed course work in anatomy and physiology
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Partnership environment.
- Pilot testing of medical record abstraction tools.
- Accurately locates and abstracts clinical information across multiple platforms, from eligible patients' charts according to protocol. Data includes specific physiological measures, interventions and therapies performed, results of laboratory, screening, imaging and other outcome measures, as defined in protocol.
- Validation and correction of completed abstraction forms.
- Maintains tracking system to document abstraction, completion, and submission of case records. Completion of a record entails communicating and coordinating abstraction with peers, project team members within the Division of Research and others as defined in protocol.
- Completes and submits data on time.
- Attends project meetings and trainings.
- Communicates and summarizes progress.
- Protects confidential patient and departmental information.
- Other duties as assigned.
