Medical Assistants are an important part of our Care Team. High levels of commitment, positivity, attention to detail, and problem-solving are required to be successful. Medical Assistants will work closely and collaboratively with their teammates to greet and room Bay Street patients to ensure the very best care. Working under the general direction of the physician, Medical Assistants will perform routine clinical procedures; participate in patient education; accurately enters appropriate documentation into patients' health record; performs all other duties as assigned within the scope of certification.

While following excellent service standards, the Certified Medical Assistant position will be responsible for the below essential functions:

  • Responds promptly, professionally and courteously to all patient’s needs.
  • Assist with organizing and overseeing the daily activities of the physician’s day in order to ensure high quality patient care and efficient operation.
  • Under the direction of the health care provider and according to established policies and procedures, responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all patients by performing or assisting in a variety of medical procedures and tests to assist in the examination and treatment of patients, including but not limited to vital signs, procedures, various treatment, participation in patient education, administering injections and venipuncture
  • Prepares patients medical charts for physician and midlevel provider
  • Assists and escorts patients as needed to exam rooms and onto/off from exam tables safely.
  • Collect and review patient's health history/medications/reason for visit
  • Proper, concise, and complete EMR documentation and paper-based documentation for all assessments and procedures
  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments for patients including preparation and maintenance of supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.
  • Document and complete treatment orders
  • Obtain specimens (i.e., urine, blood, etc.) from patients as directed by the provider.
  • May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Assist physicians in applying splints, dressings, and bandages
  • Removal of staples, sutures and bandages
  • Application and removal of casts
  • Patient fitting and instruction with off-the-shelf orthotic devices as described as well as durable medical equipment products (DME).
  • Applies or assists with the application of durable medical equipment
  • Respond to patient messages and tasks with appropriate phone calls/follow up
  • Assure all necessary reports, notes, injections, authorizations, testing, etc. have been obtained prior to patients visit.
  • Maintains inventory and participates in minimizing waste of medical supplies and restock exam/procedure rooms
  • Maintain clinical supplies and equipment and ensure proper storage of biohazards
  • Conducts routine quality control checks, including infection control measures, equipment QAs, and checks for expired medication and supplies
  • Complete FMLA, short-term disability paperwork as well as documentation for worker’s compensation and auto insurance.
  • Assist with implementing new processes/protocols for increased productivity and provide higher quality patient care
  • Performs general clinical duties as appropriate within state guidelines and conforms to OSHA Regulations and Precautions
  • Performs various clerical and clinical duties as assigned or needed
  • Ensures efficient patient flow by rooming patients in a timely manner and assisting the provider with staying timely on their schedule
  • Maintains strict confidentiality related to patient information
  • Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and maintains accreditation standards

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • Medical assistant experience in an urgent care, physician, or emergency room setting,
  • Must be able to work in a face-paced environment
  • Organizes time and prioritizes effectively

**This position will require to travel between our Petoskey, Gaylord, St. Ignace, Charlevoix and Cheboygan locations and be available weekends**
