Job Purpose
- Assists Provider in providing the most efficient and prompt care to all patients.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Always observes patient confidentiality and in all aspects of the position.
- Renders exceptional care to all patients and organizes the flow of all patients seen by the Provider
- Reviews patient charts prior to the Provider seeing the patient and ensures that all information needed by the Provider is in the chart.
- Documents in the chart all complaints/problems expressed by the patient at visits
- Ensures that all supplies/instruments/equipment needed are sterilized/clean, in proper working order and are available to the Provider, based upon the type of appointment
- Assists Provider in surgery and procedures
- Cleans the exam rooms after each patient is seen
- Ensures that all exam rooms are appropriately stocked at the end of the day
- Reviews consent forms with patients and ensures they are appropriately signed by the patient
- Takes calls from patients, answering any questions within their scope of training and knowledge as well as relays back to the patient information from the Provider
- Schedules referrals at the request of the Provider
- Communicates with pharmacies, by telephone or electronically, regarding necessary prescriptions for patients or prior authorization issues.
- Notifies patients in timely fashion by telephone, mail, or through the portal, regarding test results, as requested by the Provider
- Screens Provider’s calls and relays messages promptly and efficiently.
- Checks personal office email and telephone messages daily to address any patient issues, clinical staff messages, or general office business.
- Upholds “Patient’s Rights” when giving medications within the office
- Ensures that all expired supplies are disposed of appropriately
- Promptly notifies Practice Manager as necessary when supplies need to be reordered
- Assists with general office duties as needed and required by the Practice Manager or Provider
Qualifications
Minimum educational qualifications are a Medical Assistant certification or Practical Nursing License
Prefer at least one year in a medical practice setting.
Working conditions
Day shift: 7:30 – 4:00 Monday through Thursday. There are occasional times when employee will be asked to stay until 5:00 depending on patient needs.
Physical requirements
Standing for long portions of the day. Minimal lifting of light to moderate weight is required.
