The Material Planner reports to the Planning & Scheduling Manager with a dotted line relationship to Scheduling and Value Stream Leaders. This position is responsible for planning all material replenishment types within the value stream, minimizing lead-times, backlog, and formulating the value stream monthly and future forecast requirements.


What you would do:

The position of Planner requires reliability, responsibility, initiative, and skill in verbal and written communication. Must be able to work in a team environment, with continuous improvement and able to handle multiple tasks:

  • Review and maintain MRP/build schedules and inventory levels for assigned products to support Unit or machine shop build schedules.
  • Provide for purchase orders and scheduled releases to ensure material delivery to meet production schedules, Sales/Operational Forecast, and P&A requirements. Material over and above the forecast requires additional approvals.
  • Follow-up, track, and manage supplier delivery schedules, expedite goods/services purchases to meet production schedules, and resolve supply issues
  • Perform what-if analysis and recovery plans for supply chain or manufacturing risks.
  • Prioritize supply requirements, adjust for ECO’s, forecast, and schedule changes
  • Limits backorders of all assigned parts while communicating backorder information to Scheduler, Value Stream Leader, and other internal departments as required.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving inventory discrepancies.
  • Assist the Planning & Scheduling Manager with maintaining inventory levels, safety stock, and lead times.
  • Work with receiving and 3PL team to ensure that all deliveries satisfy the assigned purchase orders and report any back-ordered or missing products
  • Review and maintain material resolution, and backorder logs internally as well as 3PL
  • Manage ECN (Engineering Change Notice) activities and implementation start dates of assigned product. Work with Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineers and Engineering to set effectivity dates, EAU, Safety Stock Levels, and ensure timely implementation.
  • Review and maintain assigned vendor masters, and item masters to ensure required information is up to date.
  • Effectively communicates with internal and external personnel in order to achieve daily build rates and on-time customer shipments
  • Verify receipt of goods on POs and resolve problem invoice issues that may arise of assigned suppliers in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with cycle counting and accounting department to confirm part substitutions, and inventory adjustments are made in the system to help maintain accurate on hand levels.
  • Assist with Identifying damaged, rejected, or defective goods, process returns and credits with the supplier.
  • Manage assigned cost reduction projects.
  • Manage assigned supplier / product transition projects.
  • Monitor Supplier Performance (Quarterly QQP).
  • Disposition / management of E&O of assigned product.
  • Assist with Physical Inventory

What We Ask of You:

  • You have a Bachelors Degree in Business, Logistics, or related fields
  • You have 3-5 years of experience in master scheduling and planning
  • You are flexible and a team player
  • You have great attention to detail and organization skills, as well as problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • You’re easy to work with and have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
