Summary
The University of Michigan’s College of Engineering (CoE) provides scientific and technological leadership to the world. The Space Institute advances leadership in space activities scientifically (including fundamental and applied research), technically (via engineering and project synergies), socially (emphasizing society’s reliance on space), and commercially (through innovations, innovators, workforce education and corporate partnerships). The department is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a Marketing and Communications Coordinator. This position identifies and coordinates marketing, communications and promotional needs and deliverables for the Institute.

Responsibilities*
Plan and coordinate marketing communication and materials for Institutes, Research Labs and other projects.
Develop, write and coordinate web-based marketing promotion for a variety of communication media including departmental websites and social media sites, e-newsletters, targeted emails, podcasts, print material, and others as needed.
Provide content editing and news curation for the Space Institute website, as well as other online platforms as needed.
Responsible for preparing proposals, presentations, and communication materials (i.e., newsletters, brochures, manuals, websites, social media platforms, etc.).
Coordinates the distribution of internal and external marketing literature.
Coordinate and collaborate on communication efforts with related departments and programs.
Assist with video productions, interactive media, website components and other materials.
Write and produce stories about faculty, staff, student, and alumni, and keep a pulse on student and alumni happenings related to the goals of the Space Institute.
Assist in determining marketing and promotional needs and in the selection of promotional items and materials to support promotional events.
Represent the Space Institute at marketing and industry related conferences or events, as the need arises.
Collaborate to arrange for meetings and special events of various sizes that may include developing a budget, working with and selecting vendors for facilities, food, beverages, etc.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, english, journalism, marketing, or related field and one to two years of experience.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Capable of manipulating text and graphics to accommodate a wide range of design specifications and media.
Some knowledge of graphic design, multimedia authoring, website editing, and site-oriented web development (e.g., CMS, HTML, XML, page design, media integration, etc.).
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Interest in photography and videography.
Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new software. Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and work as part of a team.
Ability to build productive relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and others.
Ability to apply with broad knowledge of principles, practice, and procedures of web communications, public relations, media relations, and social media to achieve communication goals.
Must be flexible and able to work with changing schedules
Desired Qualifications*
Basic videography and/or photography skills.
Graphic design education and/or experience.
Scientific writing experience.
Experience working in an academic environment.
Experience with Digital Signage and related media.
Additional Information
This part time position will have the option of a remote work schedule to be negotiated on hire.
