Manages machine shop personnel by planning, scheduling, training and monitoring work to minimize machining costs, maximize products, quality and productivity while ensuring safe work practices. Manages continuous improvements on machinery and shop floor operations based on overall organizational goals and metrics.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all employees receive proper process and safety training for all work centers.
- Design and implement manufacturing fixtures (Jigs) to reduce set-up time and improve quality.
- Implement design changes and process improvements to reduce cost.
- Evaluate part tolerances for the appropriate fit in final assembly.
- Implement manufacturing-related process improvements based on lean manufacturing concepts.
- Develop and help implement quality standards and inspection procedures for in-house fabricated parts.
- Develop shop floor manufacturing workmanship standards and drive accountability for output and quality.
- Evaluate and update manufactured part routing times, as required.
- Perform labor time studies to ensure accurate planned times and employee accountability. Review variance reports daily.
- Maintain accurate inventory within the machine shop.
- Maintain a “tour ready” facility at all times.
- Work with Engineering to standardize on drawing formats that ensure design for manufacturing standards.
- Motivate and coach all employees to drive performance and quality.
- 5 years’ experience in machine shop and manufacturing
- 2 years manager experience preferred
- Hands-on experience with metal cutting, welding, forming, punching and finishing and assembly.
- CNC programming with lathes, milling, punch and forming equipment a plus.
- Experience with implementing lean manufacturing concepts.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
