Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital is a 35-bed rural acute care hospital located in Waimea (Kamuela), Hawaii Island. More than 300 employees and over a dozen employed physicians staff the main hospital, as well the outpatient clinics located in the Lucy Henriques Medical Center, at our Primary Care Clinic located near Longs Drugs, and at our Specialty Clinic located in the Parker Ranch Center.

Responsibilities
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the maintenance operation of building(s) and property, including landscape and grounds as well as the operations and services of Security.
- Maintains a safe and efficient working environment, essential to the performance of the business.
- Manages the hiring, training and supervision of staff.
- May oversee construction work and often manages other core hospital services.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Essential: finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, and speaking.
- Continuous: sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
- Frequent: walking.
- Occasional: standing, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, lifting and carrying usual weight of 1 pound up to 5 pounds, reaching above, at and below shoulder level, frequent gripping of an object.
- Operates motor vehicle, computer, calculator, telephone, fax and printer.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Exposed to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Subjected to noise and/or vibration when assisting patients or handling restraints on a patient.
- Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, law enforcement or related field; or two (2) years trade school course work in two (2) or more of the major building systems (i.e. HVAC, DDC controls, electrical power generation and distribution, electrician, refrigeration mechanics, laundry mechanics, kitchen equipment mechanics, boiler plant operations and maintenance, water treatment practices) with at least two (2) years work experience in facilities/maintenance; or four (4) years progressively responsible facilities/maintenance experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or law enforcement preferred.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license in accordance with Hawaii state law rules and regulations.
- Driver’s abstract or evidence of good driving record.
- Meet and comply with qualifications set forth in the QNHCH Fleet/Motor Vehicles Policy.
- Current State of Hawaii Guard Registration Card or must be obtained within six (6) months of entry into the job as a condition of employment.
- Licensed or formerly licensed in at least one (1) of the major disciplines, such as HVAC (Journeyman), Refrigeration (Universal), Electrician (Supervising), Plumbing (Journeyman) or Power Boiler Operator and/or advanced degree in technical field preferred.
- Current CPR certification at BLS-HCP level.
B. EXPERIENCE:
- In addition to the education requirement, five (5) years of related building maintenance and facilities experience required, preferably in the healthcare industry.
- Two (2) years leadership/supervisory experience.
- Prior experience in security in a healthcare facility preferred.
- Experience to demonstrate knowledge of applicable regulatory codes, standards and inspection procedures as well as safety requirements.
