Position: Library Customer Service Associate - Part-Time
Location: Richmond, MO
Job Summary:
The Ray County Public Library is accepting applications for a part-time customer service associate. We seek a motivated individual who enjoys helping library patrons and thrives in an ever-changing environment. The primary purpose of this position is to assist library patrons in face-to-face and online environments with a variety of information requests utilizing library systems, services, and technologies.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency in customer service and aptitude for learning technology.
- Ability to work and learn in an environment where there are shifting priorities, developing technologies, frequent interruptions, and interactions with the public.
- Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication.
- Understand and exhibit knowledge of books, authors, and book classification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office productivity, email, and other software applications.
- Must be service-oriented.
- Ability to apply logic and attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Education:
- High school diploma preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
- All candidates must be at least 16 years of age.
Essential Job Functions:
- Utilizes library systems to check out materials to patrons, collect overdue fines, issue library cards, retrieve returned materials from drop boxes, check-in materials, place items on reserve, and contact patrons regarding reserve items.
- Must be able to perform searches using the online catalog, databases, and print resources to answer patron inquiries.
- Assist patrons in the use of public access computers and other related technologies such as phones, laptops, and tablets according to library policy.
- Answers telephone calls and responds appropriately and accurately to requests.
- Ensures that library areas and equipment are sanitized and grounds are clean and orderly by performing regular cleaning duties according to instructions.
- Must be able to handle, shelve, and organize items according to numbering sequences. (i.e. Dewey Decimal System) and assists in maintaining the collection.
- Performs duties requiring the exercise of work professionalism.
- Process, handle, and pack book shipments for new and courier delivery items.
- Must be able to perform all other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Library Director.
Scheduling:
- The schedule for this position includes daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
- All scheduling is based on the needs of the library and is subject to change.
Essential Physical Abilities to be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation are:
- Clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate effectively with the supervisor and other employees.
- Vision which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of library materials, written correspondence, reports and related materials in both electronic and hard-copy form.
- Manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate a keyboard and any other assigned equipment to process library materials.
- Personal mobility which permits the employee to monitor and perform assigned library operations, and to attend Library, community, and public meetings at various locations.
- Lift up to 40 pounds, push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds, bend, stoop and reach shelving from floor level to 6 feet high, and stand or walk for at least 1 hour at a time.
- Tolerance for dust and mold which permits the employee to work with books and other library materials as well as work in older buildings.
