Collaborate with other members of the Library’s Instructional Services Team and departmental faculty in designing, facilitating, and assessing learning in student information literacy and research skills instruction. Teach undergraduate and graduate students to become competent, independent, and ethical information seekers and users. Reaffirm the University’s commitment to student-centered learning and support the institution’s effort to increase student persistence and retention rates. Participate in a dynamic Information Literacy instruction program that develops autonomous learners, facilitates lifelong learning, and promotes core curriculum learning outcomes, including information literacy and critical thinking. Perform all aspects of reference, research and information services.
Position Duties
- Develop library and Information Literacy skills instruction for undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of programs and disciplines, including for the English Composition Core Sequence of ENG110, ENG120 and ENG201, as well as for Pace faculty and staff as needed.
- Design, teach, and assess learning in multi-faceted instructional programs including but not limited to: curricular/course-based instruction, drop-in workshops and seminars, interactive web-based tutorials, and library orientation tours and presentations. Share responsibility for scheduling functions and activities conducted by the Instructional Services Team.
- Develop instruction materials and lesson plans in both print and interactive web-based and multimedia formats, for both synchronous and asynchronous teaching modalities. Create, edit, and update web pages and instruction materials (using the Springshare LibGuides/LibWizard system) that foster interactivity and provide dynamic, current information and access to library and information resources.
- Examine standards and benchmarks for assessment and devise creative approaches to measuring student learning. Employ multi-dimensional assessment techniques, possibly including: review of bibliographies, tests or quizzes, review of e-portfolios, behavioral observations, focus groups, learning logs, satisfaction surveys, and student self-assessment.
- Perform all aspects of traditional and electronic reference service, including: serve faculty, staff and students through shared Reference Desk coverage, facilitate live chat Reference and online Reference ticket responses, serve as “Embedded Librarian” in the University’s Learning Management System, and perform electronic information retrieval and research consultations. Perform collection development duties (including weeding of the collection), committee and task force assignments, and work occasional evening/weekend shifts.
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Position Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent required required.
- At least 1 year demonstrated experience providing information literacy instruction and reference services in an academic library.
- Demonstrated experience in and aptitude for both in-person and online information literacy and research skills instruction.
- Demonstrated understanding of information needs of university faculty, staff and students.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to creatively adapt in an evolving organizational environment.
- Strong commitment to excellence in service.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Knowledge of and experience with information resources and services in health sciences disciplines (including, but not limited to nursing, nutrition and dietetics, physician assistant studies) preferred.
- Experience with EndNote or Zotero reference management tools preferred.
Work Hours
Monday through Friday, 9:30AM-5:30PM.
Salary Range
$60,000-$67,000
