Basic Function:*
Interaction with and direct supervision of residents at this agency in accordance with state, agency, and departmental guidelines. Performs duties as Cottage charge staff in the absence of the Cottage Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:*
1. Supervise, counsel, train, orient, and evaluate all children under their supervision.
2. Ensure an appropriate environment where safety and security is maintained for all residents.
3. Take immediate corrective action as necessary and report all deficiencies in health standards, safety standards, and general housekeeping standards to the Cottage Supervisor.
4. Ensure the basic needs of the residents assigned to their care are met. These needs include personal hygiene, nutrition and personal comfort items, such as clothing, and living conditions.
5. Supervise all aspects of daily routine, to include meals, wake-up and bed-time, showers, recreational activities, etc.
6. Ensure supervision of students is in accordance with the Waterford Country School agency procedures.
7. Respond in accordance with agency procedures to situations, which require physical and/or emotional intervention with the residents.
8. Respond in accordance with agency procedures to all emergency situations, i.e. medical, fire, police intervention, etc.
9. Follow guidelines, as prescribed by the agency nurse, for the medical care of residents.
10. Maintain all necessary documentation including log books, incident reports, use of force forms, checklists, etc.
11. Develop/present and attend weekly programming meeting to coordinate cottage extended day and recreation activities.
12. Serve as a primary counselor to selected residents in accordance with written procedures.
13. Attend and provide input to Cottage team meetings. Assist in the development of treatment plans through the interdisciplinary teams.
14. Perform duties as Cottage charge staff in the absence of the Cottage Supervisor.
15. Administer a training program for entry level personnel, as developed by the Cottage Supervisor.
16. Maintain current certification in agency required trainings such as CARE, TCI (both de-escalation & physical intervention techniques), Medical Administration and First Aid/CP. WCS must maintain a minimum of 2 TCI certified staff on shift at all times. Certification status may impact what shift or program you are assigned to, based on the current needs of the agency.
17. Maintain knowledge of and follow agency policies and procedures as contained in the WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and departmental manuals.
18. Function as a positive role model for all students and staff at the Waterford Country School.
19. Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
20. Maintain a Connecticut or other home state Drivers License to transport residents in agency vehicles.
21. Other duties as assigned by Cottage Supervisor or residential administrative personnel.

Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree with three years experience at Waterford Country School or a comparable facility, or Associates Degree and five years comparable experience. Completion of the Waterford Country School (WCS) Basic Supervision Training and Certification as a WCS Shift Supervisor.
