SciGenius S.T.E.A.M Lead Summer Camp Counselor
SciGenius is an innovative S.T.E.A.M education company in Northern Virginia and has an opening for a Lead Summer Camp Counselor to provide the vision, leadership, and management of SciGenius's mission.

We are currently looking for energetic & passionate individuals who want to teach STEAM. Join our growing team of summer camp counselors to conduct exciting science programs in the summer. This a great opportunity for college students or teachers that have summer off to continue their love for working with children. Part-time and full-time positions are available.
General Overview of the Lead Camp Counselor:
Lead Camp Counselors report directly to the Camp Administrator & Director and are responsible for the primary supervision of all camp participants. Lead Camp Counselors will be responsible for the daily administration of the Summer Camp Program, including ensuring the well-being and safety of all participants, administering programs and activities, providing daily feedback to the Camp Administrator, filling out paperwork, and maintaining daily logs while maintaining a fun and safe environment for the campers. The Lead Counselor supervises and mentors the Junior Camp Counselors and Counselors-In-Training (CIT). Counselors should be patient, responsible, respectful, and confident in their ability to guide campers to develop new skills. Counselors must be able to commit to a minimum of 20 hours a week for 9 weeks (June to August) and must be able to commit to up to 40 hours a week for 2 additional weeks of camp preferred, but not required.

Each session is a high-energy, part - entertainment, educational, hands-on camp that runs from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM throughout the summer. Staff will work in shifts AM Shifts (8 AM to 1 PM) or PM Shifts ( 12:30 to 5:30 PM)
Locations (Arlington, Herndon, Alexandria & Fairfax)
Responsibilities:
- Lead campers, planned camp programs and activities
- Responsible for the direct supervision of Camp Counselors and Counselors-in-Training (CITs); act as a leader and mentor for Camp Counselors and CITs, providing them with instructions for daily activities
- Assign duties for daily set-up and clean-up of camp areas
- Interact and communicate with parents/guardians during drop-off and pick-up times
- Monitor campers to ensure compliance with camp rules to prevent incidents.
- Maintain a well-organized system to track campers’ dietary restrictions and allergies and ensure Camp Counselors and CITs have the necessary information
- Track medical and photo release restriction forms
- Track supplies for programs and activities and convey any needs to the Camp Administrator
- Report details of any minor incidents (i.e. first aid accidents) to parents and details of any major incidents (i.e. allergic reaction) to the Camp Administrator
- Maintain proper use of camp equipment and facilities
- Enforce all camp standards as outlined in the Policies and Procedures Handbook
- Lead and/or participate in all staff training and meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience with childcare, teaching, youth programs, or camp counseling
- High school degree or equivalent; associates degree, or two years or more of full-time college coursework equivalent
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Must host 10 weeks of summer day camps for children ages 5-10; Rising K through 5th grade.

- Must be able to commit to 20 hours a week for 2 additional weeks of camp. preferred, but not required
- CPR & MAT and first aid training and certification are preferred but will provide training
