POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Extended Care Technician (Lead Tech) provides oversight and direction to Tech staff during the day-to-day operations of their assigned Extended Care Program. In addition, they are responsible for the standard execution of all Extended Care Technician (EC Tech) duties. Lead EC Techs communicate directly with the Property Manager regarding any maintenance needs. They delegate tasks to EC Tech within their respective EC program, and support the EC Tech Manager in ensuring that correct competency levels are met by all EC Tech staff. Lead EC Techs collaborates with the Tech Manager, Program Manager, PSS Program Coordinator and EC Tech staff to address patient/programming needs. Lead EC Techs make themselves available to inpatient services as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership / Staff Training
- Provides EC Tech staff with support and coaching in their assigned job duties – i.e. new patient
orientation, luggage and personal searches, breathalyzer and drug screening, monitoring
phone/computer room, and providing patient transportation in the EC vehicles.
- Assists EC Tech Manager in completing the core competencies training with each EC Tech staff member
as assigned.
- Assists EC Management in the development and implementation of on-going Tech trainings
- Provides weekly check-ins with Tech staff “pods” to for support and guidance in performing job duties
- Acts as the primary point of contact between tech staff and management to ensure patient and
program needs are met.
- Maintains staff logs (shift checklist, driving logs, Sober Saturday and food purchases budget
spreadsheet) for EC Manager’s review.
New/Transfer Patient Admission and Orientation
- Ensures Tech staff follow New Patient and Transfer/Discharge procedures including moving luggage,
and properly transitioning them in Tier. This includes the completion of the Patient Satisfaction Surveys
prior to discharge.
- Ensures Tech staff provide thorough orientation for patients being admitted to the Extended Care
Program and ensures completion of required forms.
- Audits and ensures that all New Patient and Transfer consents are signed in TIER.
Documentation/ Communication
- Takes accurate minutes of meetings for record of all EC meetings and rounds.
- Ensures tech staff communicates, through the proper channels, discrepancies in medications and
medical inquiries.
- Proficient in documenting incident reports and assists in guiding EC tech staff to properly utilize RL6
reporting software.
- Identifies patients that require extra support and communicates identified needs to the EC team
- Collects and distribute mail for EC patients and staff.
- Maintains the inventories and purchasing of all food, cleaning, and additional items needed for the
operation of the EC Program.
Peer Recovery Support / Recovery Networking
- Acts as the model for addressing behavioral issues in a professional, compassionate manner.
- Ensures the completion of sponsorship agreements and their inclusion in the patient’s EMR.
- Maintains and updates approved 12-step meeting list, and other recovery support groups, i.e. SMART
Recovery and Celebrate Recovery.
- Reviews Peer Recovery Coaching sessions with the Tech staff to ensure support is provided
- Accurately documents peer services in the EMR.
Safety and Security
- Maintains high visibility on the grounds for patient safety and for campus security.
- Performs scheduled rounds of premises; assuring patients are in assigned buildings after hours, doors
and windows are locked, and guards against illegal entry.
- Responds to risk indicators to assure patient welfare and safety.
- Reports suspicions of abuse or neglect to Mandatory Reporting Group.

- Maintains order in the community by setting and enforces appropriate boundaries with patients
- Participates in clinical interventions as needed.
- Maintains order for a therapeutic community environment providing for their safety and well-being,
through effective de-escalation methods.
- Ensures Tech staff uphold the safe and secure storage of all medications.
- Ensures Tech staff are thoroughly trained on monitoring patient medication self-administration.
- Acts as the point of contact for Tech staff whenever any irregularities regarding medication self'administration occurs to EC Tech Manager.
- Serves to help maintain the Extended Care Residence by monitoring any maintenance, repair or other
house needs, and serving to correct them and/or seeking assistance as needed.
- Audits adherence to the dietary regulations as outlined in the EC Program.
Use of Company Vehicles and the Transport of Patients
- Notifies EC tech manager or PSS Coordinator of any vehicle maintenance needs and help coordinate
maintenance as needed.
- Provides transportation for Extended Care patients to medical appointments, clinical sessions and
outside activities.
- Assists with upkeep and appearance of vehicles by performing vehicle checks at the beginning of shift
or before first trip.
Expense Reporting
- Properly reports expenses during a trip/assignment. Compliant with reporting all expenses with
appropriate levels of supportive documentation.
Other Duties
Performs the job duties and responsibilities of the Extended Care Clinical Tech.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES FOR LEAD EC TECH:
- Current CPR Certification
- CPI Certification Required
- CCAR Certification Required
- CPRS or equivalent peer certification strongly preferred
- 1-2 years' experience as an Extended Care Clinical Tech strongly preferred
- High School graduate or equivalent required; prior experience in treatment center or health care field strongly preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of recovery tools required (12 Step, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, etc.)
- Must be able to speak and communicate clearly; basic written skills required. Basic mathematical skills required
- Basic Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel required
- Must communicate well with patients/staff with a customer service-oriented mindset
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
- May need to work untraditional work hours such as weekends, evenings, observed holidays,
and nights.
