Position: Lead Application Engineer

Reports To: Director Sustaining Engineering Climate General Industries

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

The Lead Application Engineer will be responsible for serving as the technical liaison for General Industry (G.I.) Highly Valued customers in the appliance, mechanical, medical, and pump markets. The individual will lead efforts to qualify existing and new motors (ECM & PSC) and other product solutions into customer applications, acting as the main point of contact between customer engineering teams and the global GI engineering team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work as the technical liaison for General Industry (G.I.) Highly Valued customers (specifically in the appliance, mechanical, medical, and pump markets)
  • Leading efforts to qualify existing and new motors (ECM & PSC) and other product solutions into their applications
  • Learn customer applications to establish tests and procedures to qualify our GI products and optimize our tools
  • Acts as main point of contact between customer engineering team and our global GI engineering team
  • Support routine product changes, deviations and sample development
  • Act as a subject matter expert in motor technology at customer site
  • Provide solutions to our customers for their applications
  • Conduct evaluations of customer applications and proactively look for opportunities to bring value to the customer while driving profitable growth for Regal Rexnord
  • Conduct competitive analysis on motors from other manufacturers
  • Strengthen relationship with customers by timely resolution of outstanding issues
  • Help engineering team to flow down customer key requirements to internal product design requirements
  • Lead or support internal qualification efforts on customer focused design changes and transition projects
  • Support basic product tear down analysis of reliability returns for root cause and corrective action
  • Support DCX (digital customer experience), leading efforts to qualify existing and new motors (ECM & PSC), motorized blowers, and other product solutions into their applications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering / technology and 5-7 years experience or equivalent related experience and education
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with emphasis on documentation
  • Ability to gather requirements (Voice of Customer), write specifications, test plans, and application notes
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong relationship and team-building skills; Including conflict resolution
  • Individual must be proactive, high energy and have strong problem solving skills
  • Strong time management and self-management skills
  • Willingness and ability to learn, help, create and adapt to new techologies
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting computer hardware and software program issues
  • Ability to travel and work at a customer site for extended period of time
  • Project management experience and a desire for eventual Product Ownership

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in HVAC, commercial appliance, commercial refrigeration, or electric motor industry; Technical sales aptitude
  • Ability to interpret electronics and HVAC schematics, bill of materials and engineering drawings
  • Six Sigma trained, experience with statistical analysis, Green Belt certified; 5S and Lean training; project leadership
  • Experience with ECM and/or PSC motors
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus
