About this opportunity:
The Lab Tester job helps support the safe and efficient operation of the Refinery by providing accurate, timely testing results to the unit operators in the plant. The physical strength demands are light to moderate. A Tester is generally standing and moving around performing testing during the length of their shift. Refinery experience is an asset. This job is an individual contributor but also, at times, works in a bigger team to meet the Laboratory testing goals.

Responsibilities:
- A Lab Tester at the Superior Refinery safely performs process control and product certification testing on various refinery feedstocks, intermediate streams, finished products and processing chemicals. This role supports the safe and efficient operation of the Superior refinery as well as supporting Marketing in their effort to sell high quality fuels, petroleum feedstocks and asphalt products to various retailers and government entities.
- Other testing duties include running the appropriate QC samples to support the accuracy of the process control and certification testing.
- Sampling of the product storage tanks when directed by the blender is also required.
- This role is an individual contributor working towards meeting the Laboratory testing goal for the day, but the role must collaborate with other team members, when necessary during unexpected results, so that the overall testing goal can be met.
- This role must think critically to solve problems when testing results deviate from the expected norms.
- Complete other testing when assigned by the Laboratory Chemists.
- Collaborate with the Chemists when required to solve problems.
- Perform all laboratory tests and procedures, provide accurate results as per the proper published Laboratory procedure
- Enter data into the LIMS to provide timely results to the data consumer
- Contribute to a respectful and inclusive workplace
Qualifications:
Experience
- Knowledge of Statistical Quality Control, government regulations regarding fuel parameter reporting and refinery processes is an asset.
- Experience in MS Office applications, SAP and other business enterprise software.
- Have a basic mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and repair instruments.

Education & Professional Designations
- An accredited post-secondary degree is required.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry is preferred.
- A Bachelor of Science degree with related Chemistry classes may be considered.
