Overview:
The Laboratory Assistant at New York Medical College (NYMC) will be an integral member of the laboratory environment supporting medical research in important areas of focus including cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, kidney disease, the neurosciences, disaster medicine, and vaccine development. This position may involve various responsibilities including but not limited to assisting with the design and performance of experiments, documenting results, maintaining laboratory equipment and stock, and ensuring laboratory organization. The level of independence and supervision may vary based on the lab’s focus, the candidate’s experience, ability to multitask among other factors. The specific duties for the lab environment are highlighted below.

The Bisserier Laboratory at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, is seeking a full-time laboratory technician in molecular and cellular biology with a strong interest in cardiovascular diseases. The lab investigates the molecular mechanisms that contribute to pulmonary arterial hypertension with the ultimate goal of identifying new therapeutic targets and developing new pharmacological strategies. Our studies encompass a wide variety of techniques, including mammalian cell culture, transfections, lentiviral/retroviral infection, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, RT-qPCR, ChlP-qPCR, immunostaining, and gene therapy using animal models of PAH. The ideal candidate will work well in a team environment, but yet be driven and self-motivated.
This position will pay between $29,200 and $36,400.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist the principal investigator with experimental design, execution, data collection, and interpretation
2. Assist with laboratory staff training and oversee students performing procedures andexperiments
3. Maintain laboratory records and inventory for long-term sample storage
4. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety guidelines
5. Responsible for ordering supplies and day-to-day lab budgeting
Qualifications:
Education, Qualifications and Skills
(A) Education requirement: Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in the field of Life Sciences or related field
(B) Licenses or certifications: None
(C) Technical/computer skills:
  • Highly motivated, skilled, and dynamic individual.
  • Previous experience with mammalian cell culture, aseptic techniques, and other laboratory techniques would be appreciated.
  • Knowledge in cardiovascular biology and/or molecular biology research (gene regulation) is an advantage but not required .
  • Familiarity with next-generation sequencing technologies.
  • Good organization skills and ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and statistical software (ex: GraphPad Prism).
  • Aptitude for quick learning and multi-tasking is critical
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, good laboratory practices and procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
