Evans Community Market is looking for a well-rounded Kitchen Manager. The Manager will be someone who is an experienced cook with the ability to handle managerial duties including ordering, inventory, scheduling and managing food costs. Our ideal candidate is self-driven, punctual, reliable. He/She will be able to lead and motivate staff with a highly positive attitude. Candidates should enjoy the art of cooking, presentation, and creating specials. The Kitchen Manager should demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and the skills to grow Evans’ catering. We have a small kitchen staff and being able to multitask and maintain quality is a must. Also key to the Kitchen Manager’s success will be his/her ability to develop strong, positive relationships with customers and neighborhood churches, businesses, clubs, and organizations, and fostering neighborhood pride and “ownership” in the Evans Community Market.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Market Deli Operations

· Assure the preparation of tasty and healthy meals.

· Assist the Market Manager in sourcing food/supplies for the Kitchen. This includes making local purchases as well as ordering from wholesale suppliers and vendors, with the goal of providing quality products at prices affordable to customers.

· Receive and inspect products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality, for payment purposes

· Monitor and control all Kitchen costs and expenses, including maintaining proper ordering and inventory control, and controlling shrink

· Sustain a high level of product knowledge and product preparation

· Set measurable goals for Kitchen sales

· Maintain cleanliness of the Kitchen at all times

· Plan for expansion of the Kitchen, including increased lunch sales and catering

Catering Operations

· Recruit catering business, including maintaining a contact list of former and potential customers

· Meet with clients to determine their needs and provide menu selections and pricing

· Supervise kitchen staff in preparation of bulk meal orders

· Transport, or arrange for the transport and set up of catered events

· Assure that all catering jobs are handled in a professional manner, including arriving and setting up on time, attractive presentation of food, preserving proper food temperature, and providing friendly service to clients and their guests

· Follow up with clients after each catering event

Personnel

· Schedule, supervise, and evaluate Kitchen staff

· Recruit, hire, and train new employees as necessary

· Ensure Kitchen staff adherence to market policies and procedures

Customer Relations

· Develop and maintain positive community relationships

· Continually seek ways to improve sales and minimize expenses

· Ensure a safe and hygienic food service. This includes enforcement of COVID protocols.

· Respond positively to shopper inquiries or complaints and assist shoppers with purchases, information, and product selection

Marketing

· Assist Market Manager and Marketing Specialist with promotion of the Kitchen (i.e. share ideas for store signage, social media, and mailers)

· Work collaboratively with the Evans Center Director on promotion of the Evans Center mission to promote healthy living

Carry out other duties as assigned or required for successful operation of the kitchen and catering services

Essential job functions:

· High school diploma required

· Food Safety Certification required

· Experience and proficiency as a cook

· Appreciation for and ability to promote healthy recipes

· Creativity and a love for food preparation!

· Ability to pass a background check

· Excellent communication skills

· Must be a “people” person, able to listen well and interact with ease with people from all stations in life, maintaining the highest level of customer service at all times

· Conflict resolution skills and experience

· Excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task well

· Ability to work varied hours/days as market and catering operations dictate

· Ability to analyze and properly interpret inventory, sales, and financial data

· Knowledge of math, weights, and measures

· Must understand proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and appropriate shelf life of food products

· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; to push and pull a fully-loaded hand truck and use box cutters safely

· Knowledge of and familiarity with all federal, state, and local requirements of operating a Kitchen

Evans Community Market Manager

Works collaboratively with:

Evans Marketing Specialist, Evans Center Director, and Bookkeeper

Hours/Compensation: This is a full-time salaried position. Annual pay ranges from $37,200 - $39,280 depending on experience. Benefits include paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave, and Simple IRA.
