We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Electronics Tech and general go-getter to join our team in a well-established Industrial IoT and electronics manufacturing company in Emeryville, CA.
You will be part of a team that manufactures industrial electronic devices used to secure critical infrastructure all over North America. We have been in business since 1948. You will be a motivated self-starter who takes pride in your work and is always interested in learning and growing. You will be responsible for preparing sub-assemblies as a part of the production process. Additionally you will be responsible for testing, troubleshooting and repair of electronic devices that are returned from customers, coordinating with customers using RMA tracking system.
The devices use legacy technology consisting of a microprocessor main board and accessory boards using mostly through-hole components. The position has a good deal of independence as long as goals are met and there's good communication and coordination with other staff.
Technical Skills:
- Troubleshoot and repair electronic devices. Some repair to board level may be required. You will learn much more than just ‘board-swacpping.'
- Perform some repair to the boards- replace components, rewire connectors.
- Ability to read schematics and work with limited documentation.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, soldering irons, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and simple logic analyzers to perform minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot simple microprocessor-based control systems and perform basic calibrations and adjustments.
- Burn EPROMS and firmware.
- Proficient at soldering through-hole components on PCBs.
Non-Technical:
- Basic computer skills: entering data into spreadsheets, corresponding via email, Editing and creating simple Word docs.
- Communicate with other employees and external customers or sales reps as related to the position. Could include phone, email, or live chat.
- Document and track production and testing data, including entering data into RMA and ticket tracking systems.
- Ability to clearly communicate and comprehend verbal and written English.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and switch and prioritize tasks.
- Keep team informed of status and potential problem areas.
Pluses include experience or familiarity with:
- Two-year technical diploma or equivalent (we do not require a certain diploma)
- Demonstrated interest in electronics (side projects, work experience, etc)
- Experience with ticketing or RMA tracking systems
- Basic PLC terminology or operation
- Industrial monitoring, electrical systems, and terminology
- General industrial or remote site conditions and environments
- Industrial protocols (ModBus, Ethernet IP)
- Serial communications (RS232/485)
- Cellular radio systems
- Simple database access using SQL
