  • The hourly equivalent for this position is $17.28 - $28.13.

Multnomah County Circuit Court
, Oregon’s Fourth Judicial District, is the largest in the State of Oregon. The court has over 320 staff, including 15 hearing referees and 38 judges working in four courtroom facilities in Multnomah County.
Position Highlights:
The Multnomah County Circuit Court is hiring a High Volume Clerk (Judicial Services Specialist 2) located in Portland, OR.

Much of your day will be spent in the courtroom, entering data in real-time during court events such as hearings and trials; reviewing case file (hard copy and electronic) preparing any forms necessary, processing exhibits on behalf of parties in the courtroom, and creating and maintaining a digital record of the proceeding using a variety of software and equipment. The work within the high-volume courtrooms is very fast-paced, will involve frequent distractions or interruptions and requires focus and attention to detail. The variety of case types clerked include: Traffic, Criminal, Small Claims, Parking, Domestic Relations and Landlord Tenant.
Outside of the courtroom, you will provide administrative support in partnership with other clerks and assistants in the court; handle documents filed with the court (hard copy and electronic) and determine next course of action, route files and documents to appropriate persons, and respond to questions regarding court business processes from attorneys, self-represented persons, other public agencies, or the public. You will prepare the various case types of court dockets/schedules and will be expected to communicate changes. At times you will work at the high-volume reception desk assisting the those who have questions about their court case, court process and procedures, or about which forms are available to them.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have at least one year of responsible, clerical experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
AND
Possession of a high school diploma or GED, or equivalent life or work experience.

  • Experience providing customer service in high-volume setting, where there is noise, distraction, and customers who may be confused, upset, or stressed.
  • Experience using a computer in a workplace setting for data entry, document creation, and performing a variety of tasks, and using more than one software program at a time to complete tasks.
  • Experience and ability to follow established rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines to meet the needs of an employer.
  • Ability to recognize and safeguard confidential, controversial, or sensitive information.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This is a full-time position, and the work schedule currently is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 per work week.
  • Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances or highly stressful situations.
  • Regular use of the following equipment: telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Parking
Multnomah Circuit Court does not provide parking for courthouse or justice center staff. Flexible spending accounts are available to reimburse parking or transportation costs up to a certain amount each month, if staff elect to have these funds held from their monthly paycheck.
Criminal Background Check
You will be subject to a criminal background check if you are a finalist. Adverse results are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may result in disqualification if the circumstances are directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
