Job Summary: IT Leadership II performs high-level professional or technical IT activities for specialized, complex and/or functional areas requiring the expert knowledge and professional application of IT principles, practices and techniques in accordance with industry standards and university policy. Generally responsible for managing a large IT unit/department or multiple functions within a department supervising senior level and entry level professional IT personnel and other staff. May be responsible for establishing policy, procedures and standards that ensure the protection and security of IT functions.

Additional Department Summary: Provides technical leadership and personnel management for a given software applications area. Plans and directs all software development and maintenance within the application area.

Manage and assist staff who design, develop and support complex software systems to support the administrative function of the university, including Oracle PL/SQL processes and workflows, scheduled through AppWorx, and Oracle APEX web applications; installs, customizes, and supports vendor-supplied software systems, including Banner, DegreeWorks, ISSM, SARS, and Mercury; and analyzes and resolves problems arising with the use of software systems.

Expected to lead a team and work with specific departments, colleges, and customers around campus; including University Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions, Honors College, and Scholarship; supporting their needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional IT experience; OR Master's degree or higher and five (5) years of progressively responsible professional IT experience. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system skills, or security technology. Advanced knowledge of project management methods and applications. Supervision of people or financial resources. May require advanced level training or certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Five years of experience in development and maintenance of software applications, relational database management systems, computer programming, web development, system administration or other relevant experience.

Must have experience managing complex systems and troubleshooting application issues. Must have experience with working with customers, gathering and analyzing requirements.

Preferred Qualifications: Extensive experience with University of Alabama administrative applications, including Ellucian Banner, AppWorx, and Oracle APEX. Advanced experience with relational databases and familiarity with report writing and creation and management of database objects including tables, triggers, indexes, and procedures. Ability to take on new applications, analyzing installation and configuration documentation to successfully implement and support a third-party application.

Ability to manage and lead a large team of technical resources who support a wide range of processes, applications, and departments. Ability to assist in guiding the staff to find resolutions to issues and implement new solutions.
