Established in June 1986, Advanced Filtration Systems Inc. (AFSI) is a joint venture of Caterpillar Inc. and Donaldson Company Inc. AFSI manufactures liquid filters using automated, computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) techniques. We have a plant in the US and a plant in the Czech Republic. Both plants have about 210 employees each. This full-time IT position will be based in our US plant in Champaign, Illinois.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Support and troubleshoot user issues.

Install and update user hardware and software.
-
Provide support and training to users.
-
Configure and enhance handheld scanner software and hardware.

Installs and maintains networking infrastructure including: firewall, routing, core switching, access switching, wireless, mobile, remote, and cabling.

Installs and maintains server hardware equipment.

Installs and maintains IP telephony infrastructure.
-
Installs and maintains copiers, end-user printers, and label printers.

Maintains virtual server infrastructure – VMWare ESX.

Maintains the primarily Microsoft-based computing environment.

Maintains AFSI controlled cloud-based network systems including Office 365.
-
Maintains a secure environment through system wide HW & SW. Promotes InfoSec best practices.

Ensures systems are appropriately backed up to support disaster recovery and maximize system availability.

Creates and updates appropriate system, network, procedure, and inventory documentation/systems.

Ensures systems and users are properly licensed. Includes regular review and audit of licenses.

Work with users to minimize impact of system changes to their activities.

Works with IT team members to suggest and implement network improvement and support initiatives.

Coordinate projects with AFSI US and Europe team.

Trains on and reviews new technologies to advise on and suggest their valued use in the AFSI environment.

Cross trains with coworkers as needed.

Makes the necessary arrangements to be accessible by phone and email on a reasonable as-needed basis outside of set work hours to provide support for emergencies and departmental projects.

Works in a safe manner, following all safety policies and procedures while keeping in mind other’s safety as well.

Reports any accidents and potentially unsafe conditions or unsafe acts immediately to appropriate supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:
Associates degree in Information Technology/Networking or equivalent; or one to three years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:
Is able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Clear communication about status of projects along with end-user training and follow-up is key to achieving a strong focus on customer service and is crucial to success.

Mathematical Skills:
Is able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:
Is able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
Excellent computer skills: proficient in Windows client OS, Microsoft Office suite, Windows Server 2008 R2-2016, and VMWare ESXi. Familiarity with storage technologies: NAS and SAN. Ability to support a variety of network equipment including Cisco switches, Ubiquiti or Cisco Enterprise Wi-Fi, and Cisco telephony.

Other Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of IT security fundamentals is expected. Experience with web-development is a plus.
