RTC’s High School Completion Program(s) serve students 16+ who are in pursuit of their high school credential. This position is specifically for diploma instruction. RTC’s high school programs are competency-based and we recommend researching that if applicants haven’t already. Please do indicate your preference and respective content area in your application. Our programs serve both youth and adults as a publicly funded, recognized high school which lends students the opportunity to pursue their diploma, their GED and/or college classes for dual-credit. Our program strives to center equity, value and provide community-based partnerships and services. We value and recognize students' way of knowing and their plentiful contributions. As a publicly funded agency, we maintain all students are entitled to a free high school education without prejudice, barriers or selective admissions. This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. The schedule of hours and dates may vary and will be established based upon assignment. The salary for adjunct faculty is $900. per credit hour which includes scheduled class time and final exam days.
Teaching assignment may include online or hybrid courses. This adjunct teaching assignment is schedule to begin fall quarter 2023.

- Provide leadership in working to improve access and successful educational outcomes for underrepresented student populations.

- Effectively teach content that empowers students to earn credits towards their diploma.
- Develop instructional content to include both individual assignments and group lessons.
- Maintain student records such as testing progress, attendance and weekly assignment goals for students.
- Provide both face to face and online instruction in canvas our online platform.
- Encouraging student progress, retention, building of confidence and self-esteem.
- Communicate with staff, as needed, about student progress, barriers and goals.
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, with college employees, departments, and outside agencies.
- Demonstrated leadership or participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socioeconomic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
- Understanding of systemic barriers, implicit bias, how these impact institutional decisions and affect students.
- Demonstrated ability to teach skill areas assigned
- Ability to reach students who may not have access to traditional/formal modes of communication.
- Experience teaching youth using various teaching strategies that address different learning styles.
- Ability to work effectively and engage with adult learners and individuals whose first language is not English.
- Demonstrated ability to meet submit grades, reports, digital communication, etc. within a given time-frame.
- Experience working on teams in collaborative instructional situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment required.
- Demonstrate attention to detail is required as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
- Renton Technical College serves a community where the top five languages other than English are spoken. Candidates with proficiency in speaking Spanish is preferred.

Adjunct faculty may become eligible for benefits if they work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only – benefits would begin on the first day of the working month after working 50% or more for two consecutive quarters).
Newly-hired adjunct faculty are eligible for PEBB insurance benefits when they have taught 50 percent or more of a full-time workload* for two consecutive quarters at one or more public higher education institutions, going on benefits the start of the second quarter at 50% or more. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under the Public Employees Benefits Board.
Adjunct faculty who initially meet the State Board Retirement Plan Eligibility criteria after June 30, 2011 are given the option to participate in the State Board Plan (TIA) or to participate in TRS 3, and have 30 days to make a choice. The eligibility threshold for participation in the State Board Retirement Plan (TIA) is 50 percent of a full-time workload* at one or more college districts or the State Board for two consecutive quarters. There may be other options available under limited circumstances.
- Half time is defined as one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half time for community and technical colleges faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B.50.489.
