POSITION TITLE: Instructional Assistant

REPORTS TO: Director, Behavior Analyst/Behavior Consultant; other managers as directed

PERSONS SUPERVISED: None;Provides direction to RBT, QBHS, others as assigned

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday; 8 am – 4:30 pm; may be required to work outside of standard hours based on operational need.

PURPOSE: The Instructional Assistant uses principles of applied behavior analysis to provide researched based instruction that aligns with individualized education programs and other areas of need designed by behavior consultants, BCBAs, and other professionals. Instructional Assistants shall maintain proper documentation and collaborate with stakeholders as appropriate. All required licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Must hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education; OR have completed at least 2 years of study (defined as 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours) at an accredited institution of higher education; OR possess certification as a Registered Behavior Technician. Internal candidates must provide a letter of recommendation from their supervisor. Prior experience with Applied Behavior Analysis or with special needs children preferred.

CREDENTIALS REQUIRED: ODE Instructional Assistant Permit

All required licenses and certificates must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE):

  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments, multi task with accurate focus and refocus in a fast paced environment.
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer programs, but not limited to, GSuite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and office specific programs.
  • Ability to master internal behavior technician competency within six-months from date of hire.
  • Hold as confidential, all aspects of the job.

POSITION ROLES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality & Accountability

  • Maintains accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Participates in staff development, education and training.
  • Participates in classroom, center based, company-wide and parent meetings.
  • Prepares required progress reports on required timeline.
  • Performs any other reasonable duties as required.

Communication

  • Models professional behavior and decorum such as treat staff and clients professionally; discuss clients in a professional manner using professional language.
  • Initiates communication with supervisor when needed.
  • Provides immediate and appropriate feedback during instruction.
  • Collaborates with BCBA/Consultant and other relevant team members on the student’s case.
  • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Seeks, receives and applies feedback appropriately and professionally.

Job Knowledge & Problem Solving

  • Develops lesson plans that are in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepares and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate IEP goals and student specific learning; Ensures that all lessons and materials are differentiated for each student's needs.
  • Provides a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Observes and evaluates student's performance and development.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by enforcing expectations and procedures.
  • Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the center.
  • Collects and analyzes performance and/or outcome data accurately.

Compliance

  • Instructs and collects data on the student’s progress as outlined in the IEP and student specific learning goals.
  • Maintains professional license(s) and ethical practices.
  • Reads and adheres to all company and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintains client confidentiality of protected information during employment and post-employment.
  • Adheres to all local, state, federal regulations and ethical practices and all other policies and procedures that do not fall under the above responsibilities.

Teamwork & Cooperation

  • Demonstrates reliable and predictable attendance and punctuality; does not negatively impact the client, department or co-workers.
  • Receives and works towards goals developed in collaboration with supervisors.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Requirements: The physical requirements of the position are identified as moderate physical activity which may require the lifting of up to twenty (20) pounds occasionally and fifteen (15) pounds frequently.

Physical Activity: Individual performs the following physical activities: manual dexterity, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and moving around.

Visual Activity: Individual performs work where objects being viewed and interactions with others are both close to the eyes and beyond arms reach.

Job Location: Individual primarily works inside and is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Contact with Others: Individual has contact with co-workers, employees, clients, and other stakeholders.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
