JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Town of Oxford’s Land Management Department is hiring a Part Time Local Inspector to be responsible for enforcing the provisions of MA State Building Code (780 CMR), the MA Architectural Access Board (521 CMR), for the safety and protection of the public.
Responsibilities
The Part time Local Inspector shall enforce all the provisions of 780 CMR, 521 CMR and any other state statutes, rules, regulations.
- Act on any question relative to the mode or manner of construction and materials to be used in the construction, reconstruction, alterations, repair, demolition, removal, installation of equipment and the location, use, occupancy and maintenance off all buildings and structures, except as otherwise specifically provided for by statutory requirements or as provided for in 780 CMR.
- Receives applications and issues permits for the construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, demolition, removal or change in use or occupancy of buildings and structures and inspect the premises for which such permits have been issued and enforce compliance with the provisions of 780 CMR.
- Issue all necessary notices or orders to ensure compliance with 780 CMR.
- Make inspections as deemed necessary to ensure compliance with 780 CMR.
- Shall also inspect and investigate all zoning issues as assigned by the Building Commissioner.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel
- Experience with online permitting (Viewpoint Cloud) and use of a tablet in the field
- Certified by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards
Work Environment:
Work is performed under both office conditions and off-site field work. Office may have regular interruptions. Field work is conducted under varying weather and other conditions with exposure to some occupational risks and requires local travel.
The workload is subject to both predicted and unplanned fluctuations. Employees may have access to confidential information which cannot be given out to unauthorized persons. Employees are required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, contractors and/or third parties transacting business with the Town.
May be required to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate evening office hours, seasonal fluctuations, and off-site appointments; will be required to attend night meetings as needed. Employees are always on call to respond to emergency situations. Responds as needed by the Fire Department and Police Department.
Physical Demands:
Moderate physical effort required while conducting field work; must be able to access all areas of inspection site, which frequently includes hard-to-reach areas or areas of limited space. Must be able to climb stairs and to enter uneven terrain. Lifts/moves objects and weighing up to ten pounds. Required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, reach, squat, speak, hear, and use hands to operate standard office equipment and hand tools. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents and view a computer monitor. Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing.

Travel
Valid driver’s license, local travel required.
Required Experience
- Five years’ experience in the supervision of building construction or design
- Certified as Local Building Inspector
Provide appropriate documentation to verify your authorization to work in the United States.
