***$640.00+ Weekly Pay***

Vessel Inspection Technicians (VITs) are seasonal (May through October) employees working for the NYS Lake George Park Commission. VITs are assigned to staff and operate vessel inspection and decontamination stations within the Lake George Park for the purpose of educating boaters and preventing the spread of invasive species. VITs work primarily outside in varying weather conditions and are expected to be prepared for changes in weather.

Duties:

  • Inspects vessels for invasive species prior to launch into Lake George.
  • Records information regarding each inspection
  • Removes and applies vessel inspections certification seals on arriving or departing vessels
  • Performs vessel decontamination using high pressure hot water equipment (pressure washer)
  • Provides educational boater information regarding Lake George.
  • Conducts daily equipment checks and reports findings to supervisor.
  • Maintains regional vessel inspections stations and surrounding areas in a neat and orderly fashion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Flexible schedule
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must have some familiarity with electronics such as cell phones and tablet computers

- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, drive, push, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions.

- Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

- Operating or utilizing equipment requiring continuous or repetitive hand/arm movements.

- Ability to work for prolonged periods of times outdoors in all weather conditions.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

  • Familiar with motorboats, sailboats, and personal watercraft.
  • Familiar with pressure washers and their use.
  • Trained to identify aquatic invasive species.
  • Trained on Lake George Park Commission programs and jurisdiction.
