Purpose of the Position: The Imaging Referral Medical Assistant will provide assistance to all clinics by performing prior authorizations and follow up based on referrals in the imaging referral work queue.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting school
• Previous experience in medical office preferred (working referrals within clinic)
• Must be accurate, exacting, orderly and methodical in work detail.
• Sensitivity to the needs of VFHC clientele.
• Speech should be clear, distinct, and convincing. Bilingual preferred.
• Must have excellent computer skills and experience with web-based programs.
• Must be familiar with medical terminology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Process referrals as directed by medical provider.
• Fax pertinent information to specialists.
• Contact insurance companies for prior authorizations.
• Enter data related to referral in the EHR.
• Contact specialist to follow up and obtain consult reports if not found in (portals, CareEverywhere, IHDE, etc.)
• Perform other related duties as required for health center operations.
• Maintain strict confidence on all information gained in the performance of duties.
• Assist with meeting quality measures by completing tasks related to VFHC initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

1. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

2. Continuous sitting, standing, walking.

3. Correctable vision and hearing.

4. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

5. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
