Summary

As an ICT designer you will support the design efforts on a wide range of projects. You will work closely with senior and supervising engineers to develop necessary documentations from basis of designs through construction documents, including creating design criteria, performing calculations and laying out highly technical IT spaces. Individuals in this position must demonstrate the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team. This role will partner with our engineering teams in the development of construction documents for the procurement and installation of ICT systems; including CAD and Revit drawings and book specifications.

General Responsibilities

  • Work in close contact with and effectively interact with the internal design team, as well as external clients and consultants when necessary (including owners, builders, developers, program managers, architects, vendors, etc.)
  • Perform design under the direction of the senior engineer and/or senior designer, develop specifications, system narratives and system layouts for a variety of projects and project sizes
  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to determine existing conditions and coordinate new work
  • Assist Senior Engineer in preparation of due diligence, feasibility, gap analysis and other technical reports and drawings
  • Utilize industry technical standards and best practices
  • Perform backcheck review and make corrections as necessary on structured cabling projects led by other engineers
  • Assist with bid analysis
  • Coordinate with the designs of other trades (architectural and engineering / internal and external) and ensure completeness of the work
  • Perform construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned projects including conducting field inspections and subsequent detailed inspection reports
  • Assist the senior engineer / senior designer in processing RFI’s, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Addenda
  • Oversee testing and commissioning activities by third parties

· Lead or participate in project coordination meetings with clients and internal project teams; initiate meetings when appropriate; plan, schedule and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work; deliver presentation of project status, when appropriate.

· Coordinate as necessary across a variety of building design disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, architectural, and structural.

· Ensure that work is completed on time and within budget.

· Identify and communicate changes to design and/or scope that may impact deadlines, workloads, or assignments of the project and project budget; ensure that Project Manager/Project Lead is informed immediately of those changes.

· When assigned as Project Lead, provide timely communication and correspondence with the client.

· Contribute to the financial and logistical management of multiple projects through all design and construction phases.

· Provide technical support to other staff in areas of expertise as a trainer and mentor.

· Where project requirements dictate, determine life cycle costing, construction cost estimating, cost indexing, and project scheduling; develop fee proposals and requests for additional services when appropriate.

· Proactively pursue continued education, training, certifications, and opportunities to network within our industry; stay updated on code changes, industry trends, and technical tools that can be utilized in work.

· Represent the firm in a professional manner, enhancing client confidence and respect, and furthering relationships for the goal of repeat work or referrals; clients should think of you highly enough to request you, specifically, for future work.

· When opportunities arise, promote the opportunity for new work.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technical discipline or equivalent relevant work experience

· 3 to 5 years of design experience in commercial buildings including healthcare, offices, and educational facilities. Experience in critical facilities (data centers, call centers, trading floors, etc.), and specialty applications such as aviation, sports and entertainment a plus

· Proficiency in written and verbal communication and organizational skills

· General knowledge of active network systems

· Experience with other technology systems such as audiovisual and security, a plus

· Proficiency in AutoCAD, required.

· Experience in Revit, preferred

· Certification such as RCDD, PE, PSP, or CTS, a plus

· Ability to work within a team atmosphere, collaborate and multi task

Physical Requirements

The employee will likely be required to sit at a desk and look at computer monitors for much of the day. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may also be required. During site visits, it is possible that the employee would be engaged in the following activities:

· Long periods of standing or walking.

· Intensive stair climbing.

· Climbing vertical or freestanding ladders, holding on to the top rung with one hand and lifting a ceiling tile or opening the roof hatch with the other, while carrying flashlights, tools, drawings, a camera, and/or other items.

· Crawling over and under ductwork and piping in very cramped equipment utility rooms and mechanical mezzanines.

· Using tools to open equipment access doors.

· Walking on roofs, catwalks, and over parapets.

· Looking at details at very close or far distances.

· Listening and communicating in a loud environment.

· Using computers or other electronic devices away from a desk.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $70,000 - $120,000
