ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This position reports to the I&E Supervisor.

POSITION SUMMARY

Multi-skill position that is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the processes and/or equipment within the assigned area of responsibility.

The I&E Technician provides electrical, communications, and instrumentation support to maintain the operation of liquids pipelines, measurement facilities, pump stations, and transfer facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Awareness of all enhancements and changes to DOT Regulations and maintenance of DOT documentation.
  • General understanding of manifold, piping, and valves. Knows and understands the basic capabilities (flow alignment, pressure rating, unit requirements of the processes (meter / pump stations).
  • Understand pipeline capacity constraints, identifies alternatives, and knows equipment specifications and limitations.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and diagrams, electrical schematics (one-line, three-line, etc.), piping and instrument drawings (P&IDs), flow charts and cause and effect diagrams.
  • Is capable of and does troubleshoot electric motors.
  • Is capable of maintenance and repairs on valve actuators to include testing and adjusting limits and stops.
  • Ability to verify motor winding RTD's.
  • Ability to repair/replace components on variable frequency drives.
  • Ability to replace PLC hardware components.
  • Maintain and calibrate point source gas detectors.
  • Maintain and calibrate pressure, differential pressure, and temperature transmitters.
  • Understands, can interpret wiring schematics in troubleshooting power circuits.
  • Understands and can communicate the basic requirements of hazardous area classification (conduit systems and proper equipment for area class) and wiring (sizing, specification).
  • General knowledge and understanding of control voltage. Is capable of and does utilize a meter to check 4-20mA loop, the output voltage of a power supply / battery, and test continuity of conductors. (QUALIFIED TO WORK ON <50V ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS)
  • General knowledge and understanding 120-600VAC. Is capable of and does identify energy sources, utilizes appropriate PPE, and correctly performs energy isolation on 120 - 600VAC.
  • Is capable of and does utilize a meter to check voltage and amperage at 120-600VAC power distribution panels and end devices such as motors or motor operators. (QUALIFIED TO WORK ON >50V & <600V ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS)
  • Is capable of and does engage in troubleshooting 120-600VAC voltage sources and disconnecting/connecting associated equipment for removal/replacement.
  • General knowledge and understanding >600VAC. Is capable of and does identify energy sources, utilizes appropriate PPE, and correctly performs energy isolation on >600VAC. Understands the voltage equipment capabilities and can test voltage on >600VAC equipment. (QUALIFIED TO WORK ON >600V ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS)
  • Is capable of and does troubleshoot >600VAC voltage sources disconnecting/connecting motor leads for removal/replacement.
  • Ability to load test batteries and conduct maintenance on 12/24VDC charging systems.
  • General understanding and ability to test, troubleshoot, and maintain uninterruptible power supplies.
  • General knowledge and understanding - can explain the purpose of grounding systems.
  • Is capable of and does conduct loop analysis and end device diagnosis using a HART communicator.
  • Understands and can explain the function of programmable load meters (i.e., Multilins/SEL).
  • Is capable of and does troubleshoot, repair/replace programmable load meters (i.e., Multilins/SEL).
  • Maintains and optimizes SCADA communications systems and programmable logic controllers.
  • Oversee maintenance and operation of Medium Voltage MCCs (Motor Control Centers)
  • Install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain electrical, pneumatic, process controls and new equipment.
  • Afterhours call outs for Electrical, Instrumentation and communications issues.
  • All other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years of experience preferred
  • Associate's or Technical degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or Electrical Technology
  • General working knowledge with troubleshooting programmable logic controllers. Provides technical/functional and/or administrative support.
  • General working knowledge of specific systems, terminology and procedures used within the department.
  • NFPA 70E – Electrical Safety in the Workplace
  • Knowledge of NFPA - NEC (National Electric Code)

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Proficient in low voltage troubleshooting and repair.
  • Proficient in medium voltage troubleshooting and repair.
  • General working knowledge of VFD’s (Variable Frequency Drives).
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities with minimal guidance or supervision.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with both company and non-company personnel to accomplish goals.
  • PC-based skills, including MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point and Project).
  • Able to train, test and complete EPIC’s Qualified Electrical Worker Program Training.
  • Provides technical/functional and/or administrative support.

PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, quat, climb stairs and ladders, push, pull, reach, grasp and grip, use finger dexterity, write, drive or operate equipment on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and be exposed to extreme temperatures.
  • Must be able to travel to various job sites.
