POSITION SUMMARY

Operate or tend washing and drying machines to wash, dry and fold or hang household articles, such as cloth garments, blankets, draperies, and linens. Perform any combination of light cleaning duties in a clean, orderly manner. Duties may include cleaning rooms, restrooms, and other common areas, upholstery cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, etc.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

•Receive and mark articles for laundry with names, using label machine.

•Collect soiled linens and clothing tubs (with cover in place) from the halls, replacing with empty, covered tubs.

•Collect soiled clothing protectors and washcloths from the Dining Room following the morning and noon meal.

•Start washers, dryers, and push appropriate numbered cycle to regulate machine processes and the volume of soap, detergent, water, bleach, starch, and other additives.

•Sort and remove articles from dryers, fold, wrap, or hang them.

•Examine and sort clothing articles to be cleaned, according to color, fabric, dirt content, and cleaning technique required.

•Load articles into washers or direct other workers to perform loading.

•Clean machine filters.

•Remove items from washers

•Operate dryers

•Inspect soiled articles to determine sources of stains, to locate color imperfections, and to identify items requiring special treatment.

•Determine spotting procedures and proper solvents, based on fabric and stain types.

•Spot-clean stained articles using appropriate cleaning solution.

•Hang curtains, drapes, blankets, pants, nylons, bras, TED/JOBST hose or other garments to dry.

•Mend and sew articles, using hand stitching, adhesive patches, or sewing machines.

•Perform routine bedmaking, according to acceptable nursing practice and individual direction following bed strips.

•Complete and inventory of clothes on provided form for each newly admitted resident.

•Distribute clean linens to appropriate storage areas.

•Clean floors, washing machines, dryers, sink and etc. using accepted infection control standards and established cleaning schedule.

•Assure laundry work areas are maintained in a safe, orderly and sanitary way.

•Report all hazardous/unsafe conditions or equipment to your supervisor immediately. Identify and report any area observed to be in poor repair to supervisor.

•Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.

•Distribute residents clean, personal clothing items to their rooms daily

•Acknowledge resident rights, such as privacy, by knocking on their room doors and announcing self before entering.

•Demonstrating respect for their personal items and maintaining order in their drawers and storage closets

•Carry linens, towels, toilet items, and cleaning supplies using wheeled carts.

•Disinfect equipment using germicides.

•Clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, stairways and other work areas so that health standards are met.

•Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste including biohazardous waste to disposal areas and according to facility policy.

•Observe precautions to protect the Home, housekeeping equipment, resident property and report damage, theft and found articles to supervisors.

•Replenish supplies relating to bathroom items.

•Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies.

•Dust and polish furniture and equipment.

•Keep housekeeping storage areas and carts well stocked, clean and tidy.

•Wash windows, walls, ceilings and woodwork, waxing and polishing as necessary.

•Use of electric powered machines for floor care

•Move and arrange furniture and turn mattresses

•Hang draperies and dust window blinds.

•Prepare rooms for meetings and arrange decorations, and furniture for facility, family and resident functions.

•Care for residents by providing conversation and companionship during the course of working through the day.

•Train other staff and give instructions regarding work methods and routines.

•Replace light bulbs.

•Answer telephones, alarms, and resident call lights.

•Load washing machines to wash rags and mop heads on a rotating basis.

•Perform cleaning procedures in accordance with facility policy and infection control standards.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Less than high school education

Experience: No prior experience necessary

Other Requirements: Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Ability to deal tactfully with residents, co-workers, family members, Mount Carmel staff and visitors. Demonstrate ability to follow written and oral instruction with little supervision.
