Job description
Intro/Program Description: The Senate is a permanent supportive housing residence for formerly homeless adults, many with mental illness. On-site services include medication monitoring, case management, money management, entitlement assistance, medical and psychiatric care, substance abuse counseling, work readiness training, a meals program, 24 hour/7 day per week front desk security, and group activities.
Purpose of Position: To maintain a clean and secure environment for tenants and staff.
Schedule: 5 days a week/including weekends
Hourly Rate: $18.00
Goddard Riverside and Isaacs Center follow the CDC and NYS recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and are now requiring all new hires to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they have a qualified exemption.
Essential duties may include:
- Clean and help organize tenant rooms- sweep and mop
- Clean/disinfect offices and office area
- Assist in preparing rooms for bedbug extermination
- Wipe down doors/walls in hallways
- Clean air conditioners, refrigerators, garbage containers, stoves and ovens.
- Weekend cleaning of public areas: sweep/mop hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, front of building, empty garbage.
- Performance of front desk duties
- Maintain secure environment for tenants and staff
- Complete incident reports to record unusual activities
- Respond to alarms and calls of distress
- Check visitors and contractors photo identification and ensure they sign name and the time in Visitors Log when entering and leaving building.
- Record delivery information in logbook.
Participate as a team member
- Work collaboratively with building staff to assist tenants and ensure building safety.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Prior cleaning/security experience preferable
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comply with background and fingerprint check required by funding agency.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Prior work experience with homeless/ mentally ill individuals is helpful, but not required
- Computer Literate, preferable but not required.
- Highly organized
- Strong communication skills
- Detail orientated and systems savvy
- Compassionate and personable
- Team-orientated
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, it is preferred that the individual be:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, Power Point etc. (Preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing and lifting.
Work Environment
- Indoor office
- Facility grounds
- Work site is in a residential and or hotel building
- Outdoor work required
This position is classified as a union position under the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Goddard Riverside and the United Service Workers Union Local 74 Collective Bargaining Unit. The union represents employees in the bargaining unit (i.e. Goddard employees in Local 74 union positions). The Collective Bargaining Agreement is a written contract that defines the agreed-upon terms and conditions of employment, including wage increases, paid time off and other benefits, and the grievance process. All employees in Local 74 union positions at Goddard Riverside are subject to and covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Membership in the union includes the collection of union dues on a monthly basis, to be deducted from the member’s Goddard paycheck at a rate to be determined by the union.
