Healthy Schenectady Families Supervisor – Schenectady, NY

The Healthy Schenectady Families Supervisor works to improve healthy family and parenting choices among eligible families and individuals in Schenectady County. The Supervisor also helps plan and manage the program, and provides strength-based supervision to assigned staff. As part of the Healthy Families New York and Healthy Schenectady Families Programs, this position works closely with the team of educators and other supervisors to promote the well-being of parents, children and families through the use of existing evidence-based health education and parenting curricula delivered through home visits and by the supervision of others performing similar work. Positive, persistent and individualized outreach from the educator keeps families involved in the program and leads to improved outcomes for children, parents, and the community.

Required Qualifications

· Master’s degree. A Bachelor’s degree plus 4 years transferrable relevant evidence-based research experience may substitute for a Master’s degree.

· Experience relevant to the role of the position.

· Ability to help ensure diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs. Commitment to working in limited-income urban settings with diverse program participants in their homes and surrounding communities.

· Ability to meet the frequent travel requirements associated with the position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

· Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, and occasional overnight travel.

· Program Skills: Ability to deliver evidence-based health education and parenting curricula to participants and work with diverse audiences of all ages. Ability to identify and utilize program resources within the community.

· Management Skills - Ability to effectively lead professional team efforts and supervise staff. Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with other team members, the supervisor, and for supervisees. Ability to manage long-term goals within a context of day-to-day deadlines. Ability to organize work and set priorities, handle multiple tasks, and to work under pressure.

· Technology Skills - Moderate level skills with Microsoft Office suite, database and internet software.

· Communication Skills - Ability to relate effectively to co-workers, community and professional leaders, and program participants. Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools as well as innovative applications of electronic technology (e.g., computers, audio, video, etc.). Ability to frequently and effectively communicate verbally and in writing with program participants, employees and others.

· Work Environment – In addition to the Working Conditions the work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions. This position frequently performs in-person home visits within the assigned communities. When not in the field, this position works in a typical “open” office environment with occasional to frequent distractions. This position occasionally lifts, moves, or transports program materials.

Preferred Qualifications

· Supervisory experience or providing leadership and guidance to others.

· Familiarity with the community in which the work takes place and ability to utilize program resources within the community.

· Familiarity with a variety of program delivery methods to reach individuals and groups in youth and adult audiences and ability to integrate youth and adult development principles into educational activities.

· Ability to speak, read and write proficiently in the Spanish language, or other non-English language as is spoken in the target community.
