(Grant-Funded Position)


POSITION: Head Start Early Childhood Practice-Based Coaching Specialist


LOCATION: Office Location: Plum Point Elementary School and Head Start and Community Sites


JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for supporting Head Start instructors and home-based educators in individual and small group settings, utilizing effective teaching practices to promote positive development of children


REPORTS TO: Head Start Program Coordinator and Calvert County Public Schools Grant Manager


EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE: At the time of application, candidate must have:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or related field
  • Three years of work experience in Early Childhood setting, preferred


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have/be:


  • Knowledge of early childhood education, all domains of learning and development, current research and understanding of how research can be translated into classroom instruction
  • Knowledge of Head Start structure and functions preferred and the ability to follow Head Start Performance Standards
  • Demonstrated computer and keyboarding skills to effectively use software products to facilitate lesson plans, assessments, program reports and word processing
  • Experience working and communicating with culturally-, linguistically-, developmentally- and age-diverse groups
  • Certified CLASS Observer or become Certified CLASS Observer within two years of hire
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Trainer of Trainer Certification in Practice-Based Coaching techniques
  • Strong communication skills
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as Calvert County Public Schools and Head Start may find appropriate and acceptable


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND DUTIES:


  • Participate as part of the coaching team to provide professional and relationship-based coaching using the Practice-Based Coaching Model prompting continuous learning and improvement in professional practice.
  • Develop individualized plans with each instructor/home-based educator to identify specific objectives of focus, recognizing individual learning styles and backgrounds.
  • Plan and assist in preparing learning materials for activities appropriate for preschool age (3 to 5 years of age) children.
  • Plan and conduct regularly scheduled focused observations and reflective conferences with each individual, geared toward targeted objectives.
  • Bring instructors and home-based educators together for face-to-face guided discussion on a regularly. scheduled basis using readings or curriculum planning tasks to focus discussion allowing for the sharing of experiences with one another.
  • Contribute to the efforts in developing staff to achieve strong child outcomes to meet school readiness goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and drive. Frequently required to stand for extended periods of time.


UNUSUAL DEMANDS: Must have the ability to work flexible hours and set schedule according to program and family needs.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve (12) month position, $33.98 per hour; 7 hours per day. Employment is contingent upon continued grant funding and need. If chosen for this position, the candidate must enroll in direct deposit.

References must be directly related to educational experience and must include immediate supervisor.

Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.
